30 September 2008 Match report for Wilmslow Town U10 Panthers 0 - 8 away win against Lymm Rovers JFC U10 Lightning (27/09/2008)
The opening line up for Wilmslow was Will, Calvin, Tom, Miles, Alex and Sam with Patrick in goals, taking it easy on the subs bench were Bradon, Dan and Ian.
The opening minutes saw Wilmslow starting brightly dominating the mid field and launching a few probing attacks. It wasn’t long before some neat footwork by Miles set Alex free who didn’t hesitate in unleashing a long range shot which was very well held by the Lynn keeper.
Lymm were also playing well and pressure from them resulted in a corner which was headed clear by Tom, and minutes later a scramble defence from Tom and Sam would again help to keep the clean sheet
Chances were still falling to Wilmslow with Sam being first to a loose ball in midfield and after pushing the ball forward a few yards struck a great shot which the keeper couldn’t hold and Will was unlucky not to be able to squeeze the ball in the net.
The great passing between the midfield of Calvin and Miles and an inch perfect pass to Will allowed him the time and space to beat the goal keeper and score his and Wilmslow’s first goal of the day.
The first change saw Dan coming on for Calvin and the pressure from Wilmslow continued with some fantastic long range shots from Sam and Alex which were making sure the Lymm goalkeeper stayed alert and to his credit he made some great saves.
But the sustained pressure was going to tell eventually and a shot from Miles was spilled by the goalkeeper and Alex was on hand to score.
Bradon now joined the fray with Miles taking a well earned rest, Alex soon bagged another when he seized on a defensive mix up dribbled forward and struck a good shot past the goalkeeper.
The first period ended with a 3-0 lead.
The second period had a revised line up of Dan, Will, Ian, Sam, Tom, Bradon and Patrick, and Lymm certainly hadn’t given up and started brighter than we did, for a period of time we were bogged down in our own third of the pitch. Finally we settled down a little and started to get the passing and moving working.
As we improved the chance started to come again and a corner taken by Dan saw Tom leap and head the ball onto the crossbar and then into the net to make it 4-0 . Tom was immediately rewarded by being substituted along with Sam and Alex and Calvin coming back on.
Soon after Will had another great chance when a pinpoint goal kick from Patrick put Will into space he took the ball past the last defender and it was a shame to see his shot go just over the bar.
Dan was by now scaring the opposition with his sheer speed, at one point collecting the ball in defence going through the midfield and then cutting back into the penalty area and the shot was again saved by the Lymm keeper who despite the score-line was making some great saves.
The fifth Wilmslow goal came from a great jinking run by Miles who took it past 2 or 3 players and goalkeeper before pulling it back across the goal allowing Alex an easy tap in.
That ended the second period with a now comfortable 5-0 lead.
The third period started with Wilmslow playing the better football great passing moves by all the team were by now starting to bring admiring comments from the Lymm coach and spectators and its worthy of note that all the boys seemed comfortable on the ball and all were eager to get involved.
Sam put a great ball through to Dan who was unlucky to see his shot hit the post but Alex was happy to score for Wilmslow’s sixth.
Wilmslow next goal soon following with Sam screaming at Alex for the ball from a throw in, Sam knew he was in acres of space and after getting the ball he took it past a defender and struck a great left foot shot past the goalkeeper.
Dan was finally rewarded for his tireless running; a great shot from Will rebounded off the post and fell to Dan who scored number eight for Albion.
To give Lymm their credit they certainly kept coming at us and Bradon, Ian, Tom, Sam and Alex when he had a defensive role all stuck to their jobs and ensured we kept them out, on the occasions when they had their chances Patrick kept his concentration to keep a clean sheet and certainly was the spring board to some good attacking moves by delivering good goal kicks and throws.
It was a very polished performance by all the boys but a deserved man of the match went to Sam who played strongly throughout the match and had hit some fierce shots at the Lymm goal which meant that chances were being created and forcing mistakes in their defence.
