Match report for Wilmslow Town U10 Jaguars 2 - 2 home draw with Wilmslow Town U10 U10 Cougars (07/01/2012)

On a morning when the Timperley League slept in, the U10 Jags and Cougars put on their football boots and braved the elements, for a competitve friendly, on a giant pitch. The game was set up to play seven a side for thirty minutes, followed by a further thirty minutes with eight a side,  The Cougars hoped for another victory over their Division 1 partners. The Jaguars were desperate to turn the tables after a recent defeat in the league clash.  Freddie, Harrison, Jack, Joel, Callum, Will, Connor, Dante, Solomon and briefly Matt turned out for the Jaguars; Oscar, Josh, Callum, Tom, Calum, George, Ethan and Archie  for the Cougars.

In the seven a side half hour there was plenty of action but defenders and goalkeepers dominated the proceedings with no score throughout. Talented strikers, wingers and midfielders couldn't find a way through at either end.

At the half hour, the teams switched to eight a side and prepared to do battle once more. First strike went to the Jaguars with speed machine Will finishing off an attacking move. The Cougars replied with a nice finish from Archie to level the score. Fate then lent a hand as Captain Dante deflected into his own goal. Not wanting to let the side down, Dante then went on a mission chasing everything down before setting up Solomon to level the game with a trademark finish. Honours and smiles even at the end of a cracking game.

A number of the players on both sides had put up to three hours of hard work in at  training this week. Nobody worked harder and performed better this week than Jaguars'  Man of the Match Connor.  Defender Jack and Striker Solomon get a Silver and Bronze respectively but every player on the pitch played extremely well. Defender Callum stood out for the Cougars along with Oscar and inevitably George who caused problems for the Jags defence throughout.

Thanks to Andrew B. who stepped in and did a great job as ref along with Paul and Carl the linesmen. It was nice for the teams to play on a big pitch in a friendly atmosphere without the pressure and tension of previous encounters. Special thanks also to David 'Special One' Livingston for his terrific training session for both teams on Wednesday.
