13 September 2008 Match report for Wilmslow Town U9 Panthers 13 - 0 home win against Timperley Athletic U9 (13/09/2008)
Click image above for larger picture The game kicked off with a scrappy mid field play from both teams as they each fought to establish the upper hand. Finally the ball broke free to Sam who took a run down the left wing threading a pass through to Finn who quickly shipped the ball on to Harrison who took the chance to shoot but the ball just crept wide of the goal.
The mid field battle continued with Finn proving to be a real scrapper, not giving up on anything and Dan combining well with Josh at the back to deal effectively with any attacks by Timperley.
Dan’s ability at throw-ins soon started to work to our advantage, an early long throw put Harrison into space who was once again unlucky to see his shot go wide. This long throw tactic quickly brought the opening goal. Dan put Harrison into space who rifled the ball across the goal keeper who couldn’t deal with the pace on the ball, he spilled the shot and Sam pounced on the mistake to put the ball into the net and give Wilmslow a 1-0 lead.
Straight from the restart our mid field were again busy with Finn and Harrison combining for a great passing move which gave Sam a shooting chance which went wide.
Josh Wheeler and Sol were not going to be left out of the action proving themselves to be tough players to deal with and at times causing real panic and confusion in the opponent’s defence and forcing a mistake which gave Sam the chance to snatch his and Wilmslow second goal.
The confidence was clearly growing as they attacked straight from the start and as the confidence grew so did the skill levels, Finn turned on a sixpence in the Timperley penalty area to give the space for a shot which brought a great save from the Timperley goal keeper pushing the ball out for a corner.
A substitution now saw Harrison leave the field to be replaced by Josh Mehta. The substitution didn’t affect the balance of the team as Sam crossed the ball into the goal mouth but a scrambled defence allowed Timperley to clear the lines.
Now it was Sol’s turn to show his skills, he picked up a pass in midfield and set off down the left wing, calmly sweeping past two players and then chipping the ball over the goalkeeper to make it three nil. Sol was back in the action almost straight away from the kick off, a long throw from Nathan in goal to Josh Wheeler down the right wing who crossed the ball to Sol for a tap in to give Wilmslow a 4-0 lead.
Nathan deserves a special mention, at this time in the game, he had a quiet opening period able to sit comfortably behind a strong defensive line of Dan and Josh Wheeler but on the occasions he was called upon to deal with any Timperley attack he did so admirably, on one occasion seeing the ball late as it came through a mass of players he dived quickly to his right to clear the ball.
The first period ended with Wilmslow on top at 4-0
The second period saw Finn going to the subs bench with Harrison rejoining the game. Sol was in action straight from the whistle and the instructions from the coaching staff to play a more passing game was put quickly into effect.
Soon enough Wilmslow kept the score moving, a breakaway attack with some slick mid field passing moves by Harrison and Josh Mehta allowed Sol to score his hat trick and make it 5-0.
This was quickly followed a sixth for Wilmslow and a hat trick for Sam who capitalised on confusion in the defence and a lucky bounce of the ball of the referee. The real credit for the goal should go to Harrison who never gave up in attack and by hassling the Timperley defence caused the mistakes to be made. A real lesson that shows what can happen when you don’t give up.
Perhaps understandably the Timperly team started to look a little demoralised at this point and Josh Wheeler was quick to take advantage, he started a run at the halfway line and his strength and pace took him through the defence, whilst Albion strikers were screaming for the ball Josh clearly had glory on his mind and charges the goal hits the ball with all his might and was so unlucky to see it go wide.
Our defence was still working well with Dan and Josh still working tirelessly to snuff out the first sign of a Timperley attack.
The next goal again came from a Dan throw in with Finn leaping salmon like to head the ball over the goalkeeper and into the Timperley goal. 7-0
The boys have really taken the coaches instructions to heart, the passing moves now involving all the players with Sol and Harrison linking up well , Sol in particular for one of the smallest players was causing Timperley defenders all kind of trouble as they struggled to contain him.
Its at this point we have to mention Nathan’s second period heroics, a break away move saw a Timperley player clean through with only Nathan to beat, Nathan stood his ground superbly staying on his feet to force an early shot which went past his outstretched arm, hit the post, bounced into play only to see Dan come from nowhere to clear the ball off the line and keep the clean sheet.
This near miss energised Timperley who launched a series of attacks, but Dan , Josh .. and Finn all put in superb blocks and tackles’ to deny Timperley the goal with Dan at one point heading off the line.
Our next goal came unsurprisingly from a long Dan throw in to Harrison who mesmerised the defence and as he jinked past them there was no choice but to bring him down the referee had no hesitation in awarding the penalty and Dan calmly stepped up and sent the ball crashing over the head of the goalkeeper into the back of the net. 8-0.
This was the last move of the period and the start of the third period saw some visionary tactical work by the coaching staff who launched Nathan out of goals and into attack with Sam pulling on the green Jersey.
Straight from the whistle Sol continued to Terrorise the opposition and Nathan wasted no time in making his mark on the opposition with the referee having to ask him to take it easy at one point… well done Nathan that’s the spirit!!!
His hard work since joining the attack was soon rewarded, Sol pounced on a short kick out by the Timperley goal keeper taking it past two players passing to Nathan who hit a great shot which the keeper couldn’t hold and Nathan kept on for the rebound to hit the ball into the net for his first and Wilmslow’s ninth. 9-0
Nathan was like a man possessed and was soon linking up with his team, at one point setting Finn free who set off down the left wing, past three players then cut inside into the penalty area to unleashing a superb shot into the corner 10-0 to Wilmslow.
This report must now sound monotonous how much more can we say about the great passing and strong running from all of the players, the defensive strength which meant the Sam had nothing to do during his spell in goals, Josh Mehta was on hand to score the eleventh goal. With Josh Wheeler scoring the twelfth goal and the last move seeing a break from Finn and great work by Nathan to score with the last kick of the game to make it thirteen nil.
What can we say about this performance, the coaches rightly decided that each and every player was man of the match.
