8 October 2011 Match report for Wilmslow Town U10 Jaguars 3 - 4 home defeat to Wythenshawe Town U10 Lions (08/10/2011)
In a tough physical encounter against arguably the best Under 10's team in South Manchester, the under 10 Jaguars went toe to toe with Wythenshawe Town Lions and almost tamed them.
In the first period Wythenshawe scored a couple of early goals as the Jaguars came to terms with the pace of the game. Freddie made a couple of good saves to keep the boys in with a chance. Joel, Jack and Joe gradually took control of the defensive set up. Will, and Matt battled away up front before Dante struck to make the score 2-1 going into the break.
In the second period Harrison, Connor and Solomon stepped up to take part in a fantastic 15 minutes of football. The Jags defended like men possessed. Jack and Harrison policed the Wythenshawe number 9, an academy player with terrific talent. Connor equalised with a cracking shot and then finally, in a goal mouth scramble, Solomon got a touch with his head to make it 3-2 to the Jaguars.
In the final period the Lions came out determined to change the course of the game. They fired two goals to take the lead and however hard the Jagurs tried they couldn't find an equaliser which would have fairly reflected the pattern of the game. So near, yet so far from glory. Braveheart has nothing on our Jaguars. There are no tougher teams out there than the Lions. Beware anyone who takes on the Jaguars!
Jack had a great game once again accross the back. Once switched to left back, Joe had an outstanding first period. In the second period Harrison made some amazing tackles and clearances. Dante put in a captain's performance scoring yet another first division goal. Matt battled hard up front creating chances and Will, just edged out of the awards, did a terrific job out on the left. Solomon pressed hard, giving 100% and was rewarded with a goal. Lots more to come from Solomon. This week's Bronze award goes to Connor for a big contribution to the game with a goal and some disciplined marking and tackling. It was an easy decision for this week's Silver award which goes to Freddie who played like Joe Hart and improves week by week.
The GBK Man of the Match Gold Award goes to Joel for a massive performance in defence against top quality opposition. Fearless tackles, accurate passing and strong clearances make up Joel's game. The managers always rate his contribution. Well done Joel. You are 'tough as old boots'!
