U11 Cougars Derby day - Let the battle commence

8 October 2011

Match report for Wilmslow Town U11 Cougars 4 - 11 away win against Wilmslow Sports JFC U11 Colts (08/10/2011)

The Cougars turned up this soggy wet Sunday morning waiting for a derby day battle to commence, they meant business, taking the warm up seriously, ready to face old team mates and school friends and to win bragging rights for Monday morning.

The game was so action packed that I forgot to take notes, if I’ve missed anything out I am sorry.

First Half - Wilmslow Sports JFC Colts 0 Wilmslow Town U11 Cougars 2

The first half started well with both Wilmslow sides giving everything they had. The Cougars were dominating the field after a few minutes and the first goal came from Freddie Miles off a fab cross into the area Freddie knocked it to the right of the keeper. Luke and Ben were taking turns to push into midfield and Calum stayed in position doing a tremendous job in defense making crucial tackles and clearing the ball down the line to Charlie and Freddie. Olivia played out of positions in left back, she was disciplined and did a great job working the line. The next goal came from a penalty, the ball was passed neatly into the Wilmslow Sports area and the defender knocked the ball down with his hands. Calum took the penalty against his former team and smashed into the bottom left hand side of goals. Will was working really hard upfront, with Harry on the left wing. There were loads more chances for the Cougars but they just weren’t taking them. Wilmslow Sports broke down our defense a few times and Ben kept us in the game with some great saves and clearances.

First Half - Wilmslow Sports JFC Colts 4 Wilmslow Town U11 Cougars 11

Ben and Calum came off for James and Joe. The Cougars started the second half with some sloppy play. Wilmslow Sports conceded a corner, Joe stepped up to take it and smashed it across the face of goal into the back of the net, it may have taken a slight deflection off a Wilmslow Sports player but who cares!! The Cougars were then under pressure from Wilmslow Sports, and after a failed clearance Wilmslow Sports smashed the ball past Ben in goals who had no chance. The Cougars picked up their game and went on to score four more goals making it 7 – 1, Harry scored a screamer from the right hand side, outside the area, Freddie scored his second from the edge of the area through the Sports defense. Will scored his best goal yet knocking it over into top right of goals rebounding off the cross bar then into the net and proceeded to score another quickly after.

Wilmslow Sports, however were not giving up, with some parent bribery tactics a player was promised £20 to score more goals which he did! The Cougars didn’t know what hit them and before long it was 7-3 and looking likely that they were going to catch up, Joe made a strong tackle in the area and a penalty was given, Ben was unlucky not to save it as he just got his finger tips to it. James and Harry were working hard in defense with Joe and Ben made more great saves.

The Cougars manager was giving some advice from his technical area quite loudly which jolted the Cougars into action, after some great play, Will scored his third hat trick of the season.  Ben came on for Olivia and Calum came on for Freddie and with some great passing and movement Will set Ben up to score his first goal of the season, tapping it past the keeper.

Man of the match was given to Luke who played out of his skin, making crucial tackles and playing truly brilliant passes throughout the game but again it was a hard decision. Will scored 5 goals and every single player on the pitch worked hard, what more can you ask? Well done Cougars! Let’s get a clean sheet next week!
