Match report for Wilmslow Town U10 Cougars 3 - 5 away win against Fletcher Moss Rangers JFC U10 Blues (24/09/2011)

In the return leg of last week's fixture it was the Cougar's turn to be on the road. The players and supporters where away from home for the first time this season.

Match 1

In a repeat of last week it was the Cougars who got off to the better start. Ford was in great form on the left and was giving the Rangers defence no end of problems. On the right, Archer was also creating problems for the opposition with some great runs down the wing. Greensmith in midfield was providing a steady supply of passes to both wings allowing Ford and Archer to keep up the pressure.

For all their pressure the Cougars could not break down the Rangers defence. Then just as the first match looked to be finishing 0-0, the Rangers defence failed to clear a cross from Archer. The deflected clearance slipped past the hands of the Blues keeper........................ 1-0.

Match 2

For all their early pressure the Cougars just seemed to be missing that killer finish. Mail kept up his early season form and was linking well with Gozem who was now leading the attack. It was the Gozem and Mail partnership which created the Cougar's second goal. Gozem collected the ball with his back to goal; controlled well and found Mail wide on the right. Mail controlled; had a glance at the target then fired a tremendous shot high into the net from a tight angle.

The Cougars continued to play a creative passing game with Bundred and Lovatt linking well with Livingston in midfield, however, they couldn't land the killer punch and the Blues were starting to get the upper hand towards the end of the second match.

Match 3

The Blues started the final match as they finished the second. The Cougars were now paying the price for not capitalizing on their earlier pressure. Two quick goals for the Gers had them back on level terms with the Cougars now very much on the ropes.

Stone in the Cougars goal started the recovery with some pinpoint distribution from the back. Bundred and Lovatt were back in the groove and were soon giving the midfield the service they needed to fight their way back into the game. Lovatt found Livingston who had popped up wide on the right. A first time pass put Archer through on the keeper. A great first touch allowed Archer to fire home from just inside the box....................... 3-2.

In the next attack Livingston then turned provider for Mail. Mail collected the ball; waltzed round the Blues defence to fire home................ 4-2.

The Cougars maintained the pressure with another fine move. Mail had drifted out to the right and was picked out by Bundred. Mailed jinked past the Blues defence and hit a lovely cross into the path of Livingston who calmly slotted the ball home................... 5-2.

With the Cougars thinking the hard work was now complete the Blues picked up the ball wide on the left. The initial cross was only partly cleared. The clearance was met by a fierce strike from just outside the box and whistled past the diving Stone to give the Gers a life line................. 5-3.

The Gers continued to push in the closing minutes but the Cougars defence held firm.

Summary

Another great display of passing play and determination from both sides. The Cougars just managed to keep their noses in front at a crucial point in the game.

Another well deserved MoTM for Benjani as the Cougars continue to build on the passing, movement and support they have been working on in training.
