25 September 2011 Match report for Wilmslow Town U15s 2 - 0 away defeat to Woodhouse Park JFC U15 (18/09/2011)
Woodhouse Park Vs Wilmslow
The sun was shining as the players lined up for the second game of the season. The game started off well for Wilmslow with heads held high, culminating with a firm strike on goal by Brandon, missing narrowly. Shortly after Wilmslow took their first corner and all players were in the opposing half, Oli F swung the corner in & Sam hit the crossbar with a header which came back into the box & was followed up by an overhead kick by Bundy just going wide.
Woodhouse were quick to tackle at all opportunities and managed to break down the middle running on to goal but Henry beat the forward to the ball and cleared it into touch.
10 minutes into the game saw the visitors first shot on goal go wide. More opportunities were opening up down the wing for Wilmslow as Tommy passed to Bradley; through to Deano who ran down the wing only to be tackled by Woodhouse defender, who cleared it into touch.
As Woodhouse grew in confidence some strong tackling by Sam & Jimmy along with good anticipation from Henry kept the forwards at bay.
The 2nd corner by Ollie M was lifted into box, and Sam’s header went skyward. Not long after an opportunist pass down the right by Jordi resulted in a good strong shot on goal by Tommy from outside the box which the goalie needed to save. Another corner came quickly after and Alex headed it onto the cross bar making the goalie stretch.
Again Woodhouse increased pressure in the middle opening up chances for their forwards to have more shots on goal, making the defence work hard & requiring more saves from Henry.
A 4th corner was taken by Olli F, resulted in a goal mouth scramble, but no goal.
A wide pass out to Jordi enabled him to skilfully run down the wing avoiding not 1 or 2 but 4 tackles finally passing to Ollie F who had a good shot on goal which was saved. A bone crunching tackle by Bundy on their skilful number 8 and additional strong tackles or headers by Owain, Tom D & Alex, unfortunately weren’t enough to stop Woodhouse’s first goal which was against the run of play at the time.
Wilmslow continued to try & apply pressure aided by the 5th corner of the game taken by Deano to Brandon who headed over the cross bar.
Erik & Martin were having a quiet game until the score went 1 - 0!
The second half started off quiet for Wilmslow, and heads appeared to be down, however the team continued to apply pressure with a fantastic work rate by Bundy who seemed to be everywhere.
10 minutes into the second half saw a loopy shot by Woodhouse which rebounded off the goal post and was cleared by the defence, but not long after Henry needed to lunge to the right to save again.
Another break down the right resulted in a cross in front of goal and subsequent corner which was taken short and was cleared by the Woodhouse defence, leaving a gap in midfield for them to add the pressure again, to which Bundy completed a strong tackle and flew into the air for a free kick.
23minutes into the second half and Woodhouse had a corner which went over the cross bar, but the pressure continued and a volley, which shot across goal at an angle went in.
2 – 0
In summary, The Town were the better team for long periods of the game but created few real chances. Woodhouse looked a decent team and played more as a unit. The Town look like a new bunch of players getting used to each other which of course they are!
A little tweak here and there and The Town will be a real force to be reckoned with.
