U10 Jaguars beat Unicorn as Solomon scores on his debut. - Revenge is sweet against the Viking Raiders.

24 September 2011

After last weeks narrow defeat the U10 Jaguars found the target three times to gain revenge against a very good Unicorn Vikings side. From the outset it was an end to end game. The starting line-up was Freddie,Will, Jack, Joe, Dante, Matt and new signing Solomon. Both sides had a number of chances but Dante was first to strike with another great individual goal. The Vikings struck back to level the game.

The second period continued in the same vane with nothing to choose between the two sides. Joel, Harrison and Connor came on to reinforce the Jags. Solomon changed the game, scoring with a great strike and narrowly missed with a long range effort. Harrison, back to great form, cleared off the line and the Vikings had a couple of efforts saved by Freddie.

In the final period Unicorn equalised early. Harrison in nets didn't let the equalising goal upset him, remaining steady throughout the final third to deny Unicorn a late score.Fittingly, Dante finished the game off with after a bit of a scramble in the Viking's goalmouth. A few nail biting minutes later the referee blew and the Jaguars celebrated a well deserved win.

Freddie had a solid performance with a couple of nice saves and some very good throws. Reliable as ever, Joel played very well with Jack, Joe and Will at the back. They provide a reliable athletic unit and had to cope with a big academy striker, who struggled to find any space or chances over the two meetings. Jack in fine form again, had a couple of monster throw ins, 'Vidic tackles, and one surging run down the left. Connor and Joe were both terrific in the middle working tirelessly for the team. Connor's form is improving all the time particularly his tackling. He is now close to his best.  Matt worked really hard for half an hour. He was unlucky with a terrific shot that went just over the bar. The goals will fly in for Matt this season. He is a class act up front.  'Billy Wizz' did what Will does so well. Tackles, runs, passes. He had another great game. Solomon got a Bronze award for his efforts. Highly skilled he will bring a new dimension to the attack. He will take a little while to slot into the system but when  it clicks watch out division 1, the Jaguars are back. Dante has forced the managers to give him another top two award. Selected as Captain, he has been a class apart so far this season. His attitude in training and in matches is first rate and he is leading by example. Keep it up Dante. Every player on the pitch could have collected an award in this match. Joel gets a special mention for coming off with a minute to go, without complaint. No reflection on your top class performance Joel. I confess the managers were time wasting!

Finally we come to Harrison. 'H' has worked hard on his fitness and is starting to reap the rewards. He was everywhere in the middle period. Driving runs, tackles, a goal line clearance and having the discipline to drop back into the centre half role. His cameo as keeper showed we have another option between the posts. Man of the Match awards are not just about goal scorers. They are also about grit and determination, training and putting in hard work for the team. Always a pleasure to have around, the managers award Harrison this week's Gold Award. Well done 'H'. Thoroughly deserved.

Unicorn have been great opponents over the past two weeks. They play quality football and we wish them well for the rest of the season. Won one, lost one. A repeat of last season. If we are all honest a fair reflection of the 90 minutes of football played between the two teams. Next week a local derby away against Alderley A. More of the same please boys!
