Match report for Wilmslow Town U9 Cougars 2 - 2 home draw with Broadheath Central U9 Avalanche (17/09/2011)

The Cougars showed great resilience to come back from a 2 nil down in the first period and obtain a 2 all draw.

We started the game in the attack but after we loose possession of the ball in the opposition half, a quick counter attack down the Avalanche left they score their first goal. That was the first attack by the Avalanche and could have brought the moral down.
But our team kept playing with determination trying to change the result. However, after a momentary lack of concentration, the avalanche scored their second goal after a throw in into the box and a simple tap in.
The period ended with the Cougars losing 2 nil down. Although the score was negative, the team had showed a lot of improvement since the first game, with the players being much more aware of game situations.

We started the second period with 4 substitutions, giving every player the opportunity to start a period but also to play a full 15 minutes.
Although some alterations were done, the determination and will to obtain change the result was evident on our boys.
After a period of pressure and following a corner on the right hand side, Daniel scored with a nice left footed shot that was to hot for the keeper to handle.
The period ended with the score now at 2 -1 down which gave a great belief to our boys that a result was possible.

The 3rd period started with the Cougars putting again some pressure on the Avalanche. After a foul suffered by Gabriel by the left sideline, he picked himself up to deliver a powerful free kick in the top corner that gave no chance for the goal keeper to defend.
With about 12 minutes to go, the team sensed they could get a win and pushed forward creating some space which the Avalanche took advantage of to have some chances of their own, but great defense prevented them from scoring.

In summary, a hard fought game where the Cougars showed they also have know how to fight for a game, and improvement in the team’s concentration was evident although there is still a lot of room for improvement.

Once again a word for the support the team has received which contributed to the team spirit.
