U10 Panthers make it 6 in a row - Revenge over Ashton on Mersey

17 September 2011

Match report for Wilmslow Town U10 Panthers 7 - 2 home win against Ashton on Mersey JFC U10 Pumas (17/09/2011)

At last it arrived, the first league game of the season, and a chance to put the record straight against Ashton on Mersey Pumas the only remaining team  who had beaten the Panthers the previous season not subsequently defeated. The Panthers knew they would be in for a tough game as the Pumas were a strong and direct team. This was also the Panthers first game on their new home pitch. The pitch was quite small and the grass long in places and strewn with leaves. This would make the Panthers preferred passing game more difficult.

All the Panthers were available this week and were raring to go. They started with Max in goal the familiar back two of Ollie and Martin in front of them and trying to combat the directness of Ashton was Davy central with Jack left and Ben right ,and Dillan up front. Eager to get on from the sidelines were Gabriel Sam Marcus and Hayden.

1st Period

Martin tried a shot directly from the kick off but the Ashton keeper was equal to it. The Panthers started on the front foot and dillan had the first real opportunity firing narrowly wide. Dillan was looking lively and tried another shot which an Ashton defender trying to clear beat his own keeper, 1-0 to the Panthers. The lead was quickly doubled when Jack was quickest to a parried shot from Dillan and then made it 3-0 after a good run and cross down the right by Dillan.

it was not all one way traffic though and ashton hit the post and Max pulled of a fine save from a back header by Martin . Ollie made some firm tackles and Davy and Ben were fighting to win control of a congested midfield.

2nd Period

The 4 subs appeared and it seemed to disrupt the Panthers progress a little. Ashton pulled a goal back after intercepting a goal kick and firing past the out of position Gabriel. Sam calmed things down though and he and Marcus seized control of the game and started to find Hayden and Dillan up front with good passes. Jack scored his third after another good cross from Dillan and Dillan deservedly got on the goalsheet himself after a fine run and finish making it 5-1 to the Panthers. Marcus then powered through the middle and laid off to Dillan to make it 6-1 and then Dillan returned the compliment setting Marcus free, he finished strongly making it 7-1. The Panthers were now running rampent and could have increased the lead with hayden and Jack both going close. Sam and ollie at the back were also giving nothing away

3rd Period

Back on for the final period were Ben Max martin and Davy. With the game well won the Panthers started to play the ball around Hayden went close and Ben hit the post after a strong run . Ashton were not done with though and pulled a goal back , Gabriel got down well to a long range shot but an attacker following up finished well making the score 7-2. The Panthers seemed to ease down a little in the final minutes and could not increase the scoreline further.

Summary

A really good performence by the Panthers on their first outing on their new home pitch. The conditions are not exactly to their liking but they brushed aside determined opposition and only miss out going straight to the top of the league table by virtue of conceding a second goal in the final minutes. If continuing in this fashion it looks like being a very rewarding season for the Panthers

Man of the Match - Jack well taken goals and great service from the left side.

Silver - Dillan - did not stop running and had a hand in all the goals

Bronze- Sam - Calm at the back and moved the ball around well.
