17 September 2011 Match report for Wilmslow Town U10 Jaguars 4 - 2 away defeat to Unicorn Athletic JFC U10 Vikings (17/09/2011)
On a sunny Timperley morning the supporters witnessed a brave U10 Jaguars put in a strong performance against a Unicorn teamconfident and fresh from a 7-1 thrashing of Fletcher Moss.As usual the clash between these two evenly matched oufits failed to disappoint. It's a fixture both sets of managers look forward to because the matches are always played in the right spirit.
Unicorn went ahead in the first period but Will immediately levelled the score following a series of neat passes. Later in the third, Unicorn took the lead again but after a quick throw in by Jack, Dante scored a terrific goal to end the period 2-2..
In the second period the game was keenly contested with both sets of players showing great skill and determination. The Vikings scored a terrific goal, going in to the break 3 -2 up.
In the final period, the Jags had several chance but failed to grab an equaliser. The Vikings killed the game off with a minute to go. Final score 4-2.
Freddie kept goal in the first and last thirds. He made some good saves and was singled out by the opposition manager for praise. Joel put in a strong performance against a pacey and strong Unicorn attack. His partnership with Jack and more recently Will looks like the basis for a solid defence. Jack made some crunching tackles, saved the day on at least two occasions and carried the ball up the wing with great confidence. His cameo appearance in goal helped during the second period. Joe played very well to collect a Silver award. Harrison played with great strength and determination. He did a good job in his new holding midfield role and gave 100% effort. Connor collected his Bronze award because he 'got stuck in' when tackling the opposition and made some wonderful runs down the left wing. Will is developing into a strong defensive player which adds to his undoubted pace and attacking talent. He produced yet another classy performance. Matt worked hard, linking up with Dante. He was unlucky not to score and is certain to get on the score sheet in the next couple of weeks. Following his Silver award last week Dante collected the Gold award against the Vikings. His game has changed over the past year. He has always had great dribbling skils and a thunderous, accurate shot. Over the summer he has developed his man-marking and tackling skills. He was the stand out player accross both teams today and was very unlucky to be on the losing side after such a great performance.
Next week the Vikings invade Wilmslow. The Jaguars welcome their new player, Solomon who might just surprise the boys from Timperley!
