17 September 2011 Match report for Wilmslow Town U11 Cougars 7 - 1 home win against Wythenshawe Amateurs JFC U11 Pumas (17/09/2011)
The Cougars were on great form today, maybe a little nervous because we were 2 players down, but there was no stopping them again, with some dogged defending, a hard working mid-field and some classy finishes that would have put Ronaldo to shame!!
First Half - U11 Cougars 6 - Wythenshawe Town Amateurs JFC Pumas 0
The Cougars got off to a flying start with no subs available on the bench. Wythenshawe won the toss and we changed ends to have the wind behind us.
Attacking the centre straight from kick off the Cougars ultra strong midfield took the ball straight away and with some great attacking won a throw near the corner flag. Calum took the throw and the ball reached Luke on the edge of the area who smashed it through the defense into the bottom right hand corner leaving the Wythenshawe keeper with no chance. The Cougars were giving everything, staying organised and passing the ball brilliantly. Freddie was bossing the right side of midfield playing one two's with Will and tearing the defense to pieces. Olivia was strong in a central midfield role and played a lovely through ball to Will that just tipped over the bar.
Wythenshawe made a break for it leaving the Cougars defense stretched only to be saved by Charlie, making a tremendous tackle and knocking the ball out for a throw in. The cougars boxed in the throw, Freddie played a great ball to Will who blasted it past the keeper making it 2-0. Olivia and Harry were winning every ball in midfield from Wythenshawe's goal kicks, the ball was played straight back into the area and Will got his second. The Cougars again won the ball in midfield and Harry flew down the right hand side of the pitch, beating the last defender, he crossed the ball beautifully into Will who slotted his third into the net, getting his second competitive hat trick this season
The Cougars weren't finished yet and Wythenshawe were struggling to get organised and find a shape after the initial onslaught. Harry was determined to get on the score sheet, constantly finding space and causing problems for the Wythenshawe defense, the ball was passed to him on the edge of the box, he took a great shot which hit the cross bar and rebounded back out for the Wythenshawe keeper to gather up. Freddie was also desperate to get on the score sheet, having a few chances and knocking a couple wide.
The Cougars defense were disciplined and made sure they covered each other when they pushed up, Calum pushed up on the right hand side, winning the ball from the Wythenshawe forwards and midfields, taking players on and playing the ball down the line to Harry and Olivia. Ben was causing real problems for the Wythenshawe midfield, laying the ball out wide to Harry, Freddie, Olivia and Will on numerous occasions. Luke pushed on making some crucial tackles and protecting Ben the goalkeeper from any threat. The Cougars defense had to pass the ball to Ben a number of times, of which he made some fantastic clearances.
The Cougars pushed on again and the ball fell to Harry on the edge of the area who took it perfectly, smashing it across goal into the top left hand corner, excellent goal. Olivia continued to be a nuisance to the opposition and just before half time, hit the ball straight through the Wythenshawe defense making it 6-0.
Second Half - U11 Cougars 7 - Wythenshawe Town Amateurs JFC Pumas 1
The Cougars came back on after half time thinking that this game was a walk over but soon found that this wasn't the case. The Wythenshawe manager must have had something to say because they came back on guns blazing, at some points tearing us to pieces.
The Cougars had stopped passing and were trying to take every player on, they were out of position with nearly everybody on the team trying to get a goal. Wythenshawe made a break and the quick number 7 who had played well all game, turned our defense inside out (what was left of our defense!) making it 6-1. The Cougars manager was not happy and was encouraging the boys to get back in shape and to pass the ball by running up and down the line shouting "You're not Ronaldo, You're Wilmslow town, PASS IT!". The Cougars soon realised where they were going wrong and got back on top of the game. Ben was unlucky with a goal mouth scramble of which he swore that the ball passed the line, but the ref didn't see it. Charlie was unlucky when a Wythenshawe player hand balled it, the ref didn't see it or blow the whistle but with all the commotion, he didn't realise and caught the ball, giving Wythenshawe a free kick.
Ben R made some spectacular saves keeping us in the game and making sure we kept our great goal difference. He made some great decisions coming out and meeting the ball when sometimes our defense should have been stronger. The last goal of the game came from Will which was brilliantly set up by Ben, Ben took a player on, passed it to Will who chipped the keeper.
Man of the match was again a really hard choice but it had to go to Will, scoring two hat tricks in two consecutive games, he worked hard, found space and passed the ball well.
