Match report for Wilmslow Town U9 Cougars 5 - 0 away defeat to Brooklands Dragons U9 Real (10/09/2011)

Match Report for Wilmslow Town U9 Cougars 5 nil away defeat against Brooklands Dragons Real (10.09.11) at Sale Moor Cricket ground.

Although the score might show a heavy defeat and that the Cougars were outclassed by the Dragons, the reality of the game told us that there wasn’t such a difference between the two teams.

We actually started on the front foot, attacking and playing well with that managing to get a few shots on target before the Dragons had time to brake from the initial Cougars pressure.
The Dragons however scored at the very end of the first period, in one the few opportunities they had, taking advantage of a loose ball after a tackle.
The period ended with the Cougars losing one nil.

In the second period all the remaining players had a chance of starting, therefore making 5 substitutions from the team that started.
The Cougars still kept playing with the same endeavor but gradually the Dragons started to use their greater match experience (they have been playing together for a while in other youth leagues and tournaments) to their advantage and they managed to start getting a few opportunities, scoring two goals in the process.
This made our defense and goalkeeper work a bit more than in the first half.
The result for the period was two nil down and the score after the second period three nil down.

Although with a negative score the team still believed they could get a positive result and started the period well but once again superior match experience and awareness from the Dragons prevented us from scoring.
We had quite a few opportunities in the 3rd period but great defense by the Dragons did not allow us to score any goals, something we would have deserved.

In summary, a great experience by the players and the coach, and a few learning’s were made in the process.
The boys realized some work has to be done to be able to play at this level but seemed positive despite the result and eager to work more and harder on their football development.
We were told by the opposition manager that our team was very good and did very well when compared to the teams they have faced recently, as they normally win by far greater margins.

One word for the parents that were exemplary in their support until the end and that was mentioned by the opposition team.
