U10 Panthers make it 5 in a row and revenge over Altrincham - shame it was only a friendly!!

Match report for Wilmslow Town U10 Panthers 2 - 4 away win against Altrincham FC Juniors U10 Pumas (10/09/2011)

Only 3 teams managed to defeat the Panthers last season and after getting their revenge over Unicorn at the end of the last campaign the Panthers were eager to put things straight against Altrincham in what was supposed to be the first league game of the new season.

The match was however downgraded to a friendly as the leagues were being reorganised, still the boys were keen to get going on a good surface , the pitch was rather small though which would stifle the Panthers passing game.

Marcus was unavailable this week but Max made his debut and Sam his first appearence of the season. The Panthers started with Gabriel in goal the familiar pairing of Martin and Ollie at the back in midfield were birthday boy and captain for the day Jack along with Sam and Dillan and Hayden up front. prowling on the sidelines were Ben Davy and Max.

1st Period

Both teams started sluggishly with all the action being in the middle of the pitch. Hayden had the first chance heading just over from a Martin long throw. Altrincham were looking dangerous going forward and forced two corners in succession. From the second an unmarked forward headed home past Gabriel to give Altrincham the lead. Not panicking the Panthers continued to try to play good football working the ball forward from the back and keeping possession. Jack shot narrowly over before levelling the scores after a good run and pass by Dillan. Hayden and Dillan both hit the woodwork before Hayden finished from close range to give the Panthers the lead.

2nd Period

Max, Davy and Ben replaced Gabriel Sam and Hayden for the second period . Max was quickly involved in the action making a couple of good stops. Ben was looking sharp on the right and after a good interchange with Martin ran in on goal but his attempt found the side netting. Martin coming up from the back fired powerfully over as did Ollie as all the Panthers got involved in the action. The Panthers were now enjoying the majority of the possession and went further ahead when a good cross from Davy was turned into his own net by an Altrincham defender to make the score 3-1 . Dillan then hit the post again before Davy made the score 4-1 finishing well after a good ball from Jack.

3rd Period

The final period saw the return of Gabriel Sam and Hayden for Max , Ollie and Jack , Martin up front briefly was the next Panther to be denied by the woodwork with his powerful strike coming back off the crossbar. Dillan and Hayden both had chances to increase the Panthers lead further before Altrincham pulled a goal back with another header from a corner. The Panthers finished the game the stronger of the two teams and apart from the woodwork and some fine saves by the Altrincham keeper would have won by a greater margin.

Summary

A good disciplined display by the Panthers easily gaining revenge for last seasons defeat. On another day the forwards could have scored many more goals. The most pleasing thing from the performence though was how the Panthers tried to build from the back and there always seemed to be 2 or 3 Panthers available for a pass.

Man of the match

Martin - a wanabee striker but delivered a strong and composed display at the back.

Silver - Hayden, only denied by the woodwork from a hat full of goals

Bronze- Jack -great service from the left wing.
