Match report for Wilmslow Town U11 Cougars 8 - 1 home win against Partington Town U11 Bulldogs (10/09/2011)

The U11 Cougars got off to a fantastic start to the season today with confidence boosting 8 - 1 win over Partington Town Bulldogs.  The new bigger pitch, goals and the introduction of the off side rule didn't phase them and they used it to their full advantage with some fantastic passing, movement and some amazing goals, making use of the whole pitch.

First Half - U11 Cougars 4 - Partington Town Bulldogs 0

The first half started with Ben, Luke, Joe, Ben, Calum, Charlie, Olivia, Freddie and Will.  Harry was on the bench for the first half eagerly waiting to get stuck in. They kicked off on the attack, passing the ball into space, creating some amazing opportunities and shattering the Partington defense.  Will grasped the first opportunity early on in the game from a brilliant chip over from Luke, taking the ball past one defender and driving it hard and low through the keepers legs.  There wasn't long to wait for the second goal, Calum was waiting on the edge of the box, Joe took a corner, the ball was deflected out and Calum smashed it into the bottom right hand corner.  Charlie was next on the score sheet and deservedly so, playing out of his skin in midfield, he picked the ball up in the area and slotted into the bottom corner.

Partington had no chances in the first half, and Ben did not have much work to do in goals however, he kept his concentration and made some great clearances when his team mates passed the ball back to him. The last goal of the first half came from a belter of a free kick from Charlie.  Will was fouled just the outside the box, Charlie took the free kick, choosing his spot, blasting it past Partington's wall into the bottom left hand corner.  The Cougars defence was strong with Joe and Ben controlling the back and passing the ball into space.  Olivia took on the full back time and time again, tearing him inside out, narrowly missing the goal and hitting the post.  Freddie worked hard finding space, keeping onside and getting behind the defenders and Luke was picking every single loose ball, passing into midfield then receiving it back and sending Olivia and Will flying down the left hand side of the pitch.  Luke's passing was exceptional and nearly inch perfect, Brilliant first half from everyone!

Second Half - U11 Cougars 8 - Partington Town Bulldogs 1

Harry came on in the second half replacing Olivia on the right hand side of midfield, again the Cougars set of on the attack and it wasn't long until the first goal of the half, Will took the ball down the left hand side, fired it across the face of the goal to find Freddie steaming in, he smashed the ball comfortably into the bottom right hand corner with his right foot.  The cougars were so much on top in this half that the defense were almost extra midfield players with Calum doing most of his work at right wing rather than right back, Ben and Joe were taking turns playing in a central midfield role and Luke was in absolute control of the back end of the pitch.  Will scored the next goal, from a fantastic diagonal ball from Ben, beating a defender and slotting the ball past the keeper.  Harry was now finding his feet and getting into the pace of the game, making himself available down the left and picking out some excellent passes.   The cougars were attacking hard and the ball was pinging around the Partington area, Freddie reacted first and placed the ball into the bottom right hand corner with his left foot.  The Cougars then started to lose concentration, with nearly every player trying to get on the score sheet, Partington made a great clearance and although there was a suspicion of off side an unmarked Partington player slotted the ball past Ben leaving him no chance making the score 7 -1.  The last goal came from Will, to complete is first competitive hat trick of the season, beating the Partington defender, taking on the keeper and placing the ball into the goal.  Charlie was unbelievable in Midfield today, getting stuck in and working really hard throughout both.

The Cougars had loads of chances, Will missed a sitter, hoofing the ball over from only 2 yards, Ben hit the post, Joe hit the cross bar, Olivia hit the post, Luke missed a chance a bit like Will's hoofing it over from close range, Freddie missed a couple and Calum hit it wide, everybody on the team had loads of chances.  Well done Cougars today the passing was excellent and the football was brilliant.

Man of the match was a difficult one because everybody played so well, Phil chose Freddy because of his fantastic work rate, he terrorised Partington's defense throughout the whole of the game, worked hard to find space, chasing down every single ball in the area.
