28 August 2011 A squad of eight U13 Panthers, disappointed at not being able to take a team to the Keele Cup, were entered in the BJFF tournament at late notice to make up for the disappointment. TC led a squad of Max, Braden, Jamie, Joe, Adam, Kyle and Neil through the group stages winning four games and only losing one game to their nemesis Longton. They beat Poulton comfortably 3-0, beat Failsworth 2-1, beat Cod Army 1-0 (Fleetwood Town in disguise), and beat the home team BJFF 1-0. The Longton Panthers had a similar record but in the initial battle of the Panthers passed their way with sublime accuracy to a 2-0 win. The Wilmslow Town Panthers played some excellent football through the tournament and deserved more goals going close on many occasions. Every player contributed some very good performances. Adam was in great scoring form after resting hisinjured heel for a week scoring an excellent hat trick in the first game, with assists from Neil, Braden and Jamie. Joe scored a superb solo effort while also assisting Adam to score his fourth and notching a second of his own from TC's assist. Kyle also got on the score sheet with a screaming free kick from his own half Joe got a third with a fantastic overhead kick from Braden's cross.
This was enough to see them through to a semi final against Netherley was 1-1 and went to penalties. After a number of poor pens Kyle and TC ensured Wilmslow Town were still there slotting while Kyle pulled off 3 great penalty saves showing superb use of his legs. It then came to sudden death and Braden, who up to this point did not really want to take a penalty, watched Kyle pull off another superb save and then stepped up to slot a perfect penalty to see the Panthers into the final to play the Longton Panthers. In the final with Joe suffering from a migraine by this stage and Adam suffering with his heel, Wilmslow struggled to contain the Barcelona like passing of Longton who ran in 4 good goals in the first half. Kyle came out of nets and caused some problems up front in the second half. This helped the Panthers to battle hard to ensure that Longton didn't add to their first half tally with Max doing admirablyin nets. Max and Joe both had good tournaments, Braden played some of the best football I've seen him play, while TC was imperious in the pivot role. Adam was the most dangerous striker while Neil flew around the park closing down danger and passing well through out. Jamie worked hard but with little success, but often creating dangerous opportunities for others. However Kyle excelled throughout the tournament, commanding hsi box, distributing the ball excellently and even scoring two goals, one of which being a wonder strike from a dead ball in his own half that sailed into the top corner of the mini-soccer nets. Deservedly, everyone agreed, Kyle was man of the tournament. The Highbank hosted us well overnight except for some very dodgy UHT milk that caused the boys much amusement. Eventually they got some sleep overnight after an eveing on Blackpool central pier and fish and chips...well, when in Blackpool..... The following day the waters of Sandcastle welcomed the Panthers while either go carting or adrenalin seeking roller coaster riding at the Pleasure Beach filled a superb weekend for all. The boys were a credit to their parents and the club for their performance in the tournament and their behaviour thoughout the weekend.
