10 man U12 Cougars in seventh heaven - short on players not on determination

10 April 2011

Match report for Wilmslow Town U12 Cougars 7 - 3 home win against Benchill Celtic U12 Vikings (10/04/2011)

A lovely sunny day greeted the Cougars as they arrived for the final home league match of the season. They were hosting Benchill Celtic who despite only having 9 players had held the Cougars to a draw in the away match earlier in the season. This time it was the Cougars turn to be short of players with Callum absent meaning that the Cougars only lining up with 10. The Cougars decided to start with only 3 at the back with Captain for the day William occupying a position on the left somewhere between where he and Callum would normally play.

1st Half

The Cougars started like the team with the numerical advantage. William breaking on the left firing narrowly wide. Emmanuel then had a shot well saved after running onto a long ball from the back by Jonathan. Jake was next to test the keeper with an attempt following a corner by William.

Connor then broke on the right and from his cross Emmanuel opened the scoring the same pair then combined well again with the same result giving the Cougars an early 2 goal advantage. It was only then that Benchill seemed to realize they were playing against 10 and they started to come into the game more pushing the cougars back. They pulled one goal back following a run and shot after picking up a Cougars goal kick It was now end to end play and the Cougars had no fewer than 3 goals disallowed in this period. They did extend their lead though with Connor completing a hat trick of assists finding Will N's head from another fine cross to make the score 3-1 to the Cougars,

Benchill were still pressing and hit the bar and there were also chances for Joe and Connor to extend the Cougars lead.

2nd Half

Replenished with lots of fluid in the half time break The Cougars went straight on the attack Connor well supplied by Luis  Jayden and Jake was running riot down the right wing and extended the Cougars lead after cutting in and lofting a cross cum shot over the Benchill keeper. it was soon 5-1 after Jonathan intercepted well and fed Jake who played Emmanuel in to complete his hat trick.

The Cougars then had their customary mid game wobble and Benchill pulled a goal back , Patrick having no chance when comfronted with several Benchill attackers running in on goal.

It was soon 6-2 when after more good work on the right by Connor emmanuel laid the cross of for Joe to thump the ball gleefully into the roof of the net from 2 yards out. this was Joe's much overdue and well deserved first goal of the season and by scoring it means that all of the outfield Cougars have found the net this season.

Benchill pulled another goal back when a shot took a deflection past Patrick making the score 6-3

The scoring was completed by Jake who headed in at the far post after yet another run and cross by Connor. Emmanuel had another goal dis allowed and William and Jake both found the Benchill keeper in fine form with late efforts on goal.

Summary

A really strong performance by 10 man Cougars which consolidates 3rd spot in the league. The Cougars seem to reserve their best performances for when they are short on numbers. Hopefully with additions to the squad arriving in the summer they can launch a serious attempt at getting promoted next season.

MOM- Connor for a great display on the right creating four goals and scoring himself
