2 April 2011 Match report for Wilmslow Town U9 Jaguars 9 - 2 away defeat to Wythenshawe Town U9 (02/04/2011)
The U9 Jaguars kicked off against Wythenshawe Town Lions hoping to build on last week's double victory. The opening line-up of Freddie, Joel, Jack, Connor, Dante, Joe and Matt held off a the Lions. Ollie and Max came on to bolster the attack. Wythenshawe scored a goal to take a one nil lead into the break. Harrison, Cameron and Will lined up with the team at the start of the second period. Problems piled up as Wythenshawe put three more past Freddie with some sharp attacking play. Joe and Dante returned and Will scored a brilliant goal to take the Jaguars into the final period 4 - 1 down. The game should have been recoverable in the final third but Wythenshawe stepped up a gear, particularly the superb number nine, who terrorised the Jaguars defence. Five goals followed for the Lions who wrapped up a top class Division A performance despite another fine solo effort by Matt. Final score a disappointing 9 -2.
Positives from the game include a string of fine saves from Freddie (Silver) and hard work from Harrison, Joel and Jack (Bronze) who made some strong tackles and passes. Connor and Cameron fought hard in midfield. Matt chased goals with Max, Ollie and Dante. A number of scoring opportunities went begging and passes went astray in a game which needed more opportunities to be created and taken for the Jaguars to take something away.
Will was deservedly GBK Gold Man of the Match. Will has worked hard on his game all season in training and on the pitch. His Gold award was overdue, following a string of fine performances. He was the best Jaguars' player on the pitch. The ref was one of the best seen all season and the Wilmslow boys have nothing to complain about. There is a lot to work on in training, if we are to compete in A Division next season.
