U11 Panthers come up short - disappointment on various levels

Match report for Wilmslow Town U11 Panthers 3 - 0 away defeat to Broadheath Central U11 Cobras (26/03/2011)

The U11 Panthers struggled this morning against league leaders Broadheath. In a game notable for some poor refereeing, the Panthers let Broadheath control the match and let bad decisions lead to indiscipline and, ultimately, defeat.

There was no question over who deserved to win the game - Broadheath were superior in almost all departments. Unfortunately, the Panthers chose to spend more time concerning themselves with the referee's performance rather than their own. And it was the latter, not the former, that lost them the game.

In truth, the result was telegraphed in recent training sessions, where too many of the squad have taken results against the league's lesser sides as a benchmark for their talents, rather than looking to improve their own game. With the leading sides from the Saturday league expected to play in next season's Division One, it is possibly no bad thing that they now trail the leaders by ten points. They simply aren't prepared to play at that level.

As a footnote to this abridged report; sympathy to this morning's referee. With only six games experience in officiating junior games, this fiercely contested U11 fixture was not an appropriate engagement. The ref and the game suffered as a result.
