20 March 2011 Match report for Wilmslow Town U9 Jaguars 4 - 2 away defeat to AFC Urmston Meadowside U9 Saxons (19/03/2011)
The U9 Jaguars played Urmston Meadowside Saxons at Flixton Fields, in their first Division A competitive cup match. Conditions were perfect with two strong sides looking to go through to the next round.
Both teams played great football for 45 minutes. Sadly, the first Saxons’ goal didn’t cross the line. Our boys came back from 3 nil down to 3 - 2 with goals from Matt and Dante. Dante had a tremendous shot saved by the keeper. Matt should have had a penalty late in the game. The Saxons took it to 4 – 2 with a minute to go and the Jags crashed out of the cup.
Urmston did just enough to win the game but the Jaguars came close to a shock result against a side that beat Liverpool FC’s Academy Team. Cameron got Man of the Match for an outstanding and committed midfield display. Our other midfield general, Connor, picked up the Silver Award and Joel the Bronze Award for his brave defending. Special mentions go to Max who played bravely through illness, Matt and Dante who both had terrific games in attack and Jack and Harrison in the trenches at the back. Thanks also to Ollie, Joe and Freddie who get ten out of ten for effort. Will was sidelined through injury. We all wish him a speedy recovery.
This defeat is hard to take but on the whole the best team won – just!
Late addition:- I have just discovered that the Saxons recently beat Sale United 2 - 0. Food for thought.
