6 March 2011 Match report for Wilmslow Town U10 Jaguars 2 - 5 home defeat to Altrincham FC Juniors U10 (05/03/2011)
Wilmslow Town Jaguars under 10’s v Altrincham FC – 5th March 2011
After the thriller against Altrincham last week, everyone was really looking forward to the rematch at the Jaguars home ground. The boys were on the defensive from the off with Zaki and Arun getting stuck into tackles as usual. James was put through but tackled before he could shoot then Harry had a stab that went wide. Altrincham then took a deserved lead with a well worked goal and would have gone further ahead it were not for an Arun tackle and a save from Oliver. The pressure told however and Altrincham went two up after an Oliver save fell to one of three strikers who passed the ball over the line. This goal sparked the Jaguars into action that produced a sublime move with Robbie delicately lobbing the ball, over an awe struck defence, to Steph who slotted the ball into the goal. What a way to end the period!
First Period: – Wilmslow Town Jaguars 1 Altrincham 2
After a shaky start in defence, the Jaguars showed us yet another piece of brilliance. Steph but a well weighted pass from the half way line into the box for Robbie to get the slightest of touches to angle the ball past the Altrincham keeper – Patrick Vieira in his prime would have been proud! There was then a period dominated by the two Jacks, JackC battling in defence – JackK in midfield and attack. Despite this there were no more goals and the game was set up again for a tense and exciting final period.
Second Period: Wilmslow Town Jaguars 2 Altrincham 2
Oliver made a great save in the corner straight after the whistle then, at the other end, Sam had a thunder strike go just over the bar. Altrincham broke the deadlock with another good goal but the Jaguars were straight back on the attack. A quick thinking Harry took a short corner to Robbie who returned the favour for Harry to cross into the box. Steph put himself on the end of it with a brave header but the ball hit the outside of the post. Steph had been the victim of a high kick however and had the mud and bruise to prove it – the referee spotted this and gave a penalty to the Jaguars. Whilst Steph was off for treatment Robbie put the penalty wide so the boys were still behind but looked threatening. The Jaguars then lost their focus and Altrincham made them pay with two more goals in the final minutes to make the scoreline look more of an emphatic victory than it was.
