Back to winning ways in style - U9 Panthers overcome determined opposition

5 March 2011

Match report for Wilmslow Town U9 Panthers 3 - 0 home win against Alderley United U9 A (05/03/2011)

The Panthers lined up again against Alderley  just two weeks after holding them to a 3-3  away draw in difficult conditions. This time they had home advantage and the pitches had dried out sufficiently for the Panthers to feel hopeful that their preferred passing game would reap rewards once again.

Despite performing credibly after being promoted two divisions they were still awaiting that much needed confidence boosting first victory at this level.

Gabriel, Captain for the day won the toss and the Panthers kicked downhill in the first period. In front of Gabriel Martin and Ollie formed the ever reliable back line, Jack Marcus and Davy covered the midfield with Aidan  up front seeking to worry the Alderly defense as he had done in the previous game. waiting eagerly in the wings were Sam Dillan Ben and new boy Archie.

1st period

The Panthers started on the front foot seeking to deny Alderley time on the ball. Ollie pushing forward had the first shot on goal. Alderley were looking dangerous and Gabriel was soon called into action.

The Panthers had already enjoyed a lot of success this season from well delivered corners and today was to be no exception. They managd to score two goals in quick  succession. Firstly Martin touched a Davy corner back to Marcus who controlled well and drilled a shot into the bottom corner , then the other big defender up from the back, Ollie played in Davy who finished cooly from close range.

Alderley were clearly rattled and pushed forward, looking to respond. Marcus was again magnificent in midfield and broke up play,  and distributed well to Aidan Jack and Davy who all came close to extending the Panthers lead.

Frustrated by the attentions of Ollie and Martin Alderley could not make any inroads on the Panthers lead.

1st period score 2-0

2nd Period

The second period saw the introduction of Ben, Sam, Dillan and Archie who all had good  early touches as the Panthers sought to put the game beyond Alderley. Archie looking to break free on goal  again felt the force of the Alderley defences tackling

Alderley were pushing forward and came close to reducing the Panthers lead with a free kick from the edge of the area that went narrowly wide. They continued to press and won a series of corners that were well cleared. Davy and Ollie were not taking any chances and cleared their lines well, behind them Gabriel's handling was superb.

Dillan looking to relieve the pressure ran at the Alderley defense , Ben was taking command of midfield and looking to find Archie Sam and Dillan a great one two with Dillan deserved a goal but the ball was cleared to safety.

The period ended with Alderley on top and a great defensive tackle from Sam denying a goal chance.

2nd period score 2-0

3rd period

The final period saw the return of Martin Aidan Marcus and Jack and again playing downhill the boys showed they were not frightened of shooting from distance.

Jack cutting in from the left was first to test the Alderley keeper this was followed up by good strikes from Ben and Archie. then further strikes from Jack and Ben which all went close

The game was flowing from end to end with Gabriel also showing what a great shot stopper he is

Sam and Martin now formed the back line but both as with all the boys are ever keen to get forward , The Panthers then won a free kick 25 yards out. Martin only had one thing in mind and dispatched a superb strike into the top corner of the net to make the score 3-0

Alderley were not done with and an equally good strike from distance bought out a tremendous save from Gabriel who was determined not to concede.

Although under pressure the boys saw out the game well and deservedly ran out convincing winners.

Final Score 3-0
