U9 Jaguars beat Fletcher Moss in match of the day - Mission Impossible not so impossible after all!

Match report for Wilmslow Town U9 Jaguars 1 - 2 away win against Fletcher Moss Rangers JFC U9 (A) (22/01/2011)

The Jaguars and their supporters arrived for the second encounter with Fletcher Moss, feeling a little nervous after last week’s ordeal at Sale. A good warm up organised by Nick and a quick pep talk from John prepared the team for the trial ahead.

After much deliberation this week’s team comprised Freddie in goals behind a two man defence from Joel, Cameron and Harrison. Connor played as anchorman in midfield.  Two wingers were selected from Max, Will and Joe.  One forward came from Dante, Matt and Olly. Joe was captain for the day.

It’s difficult to sum up how well the Jaguars played in this match. Freddie was a rock in goals. He smothered everything that came at him and kicked well throughout. Defenders Joel, Cameron and Harrison, were organised and committed. Their man marking destroyed the Fletcher Moss passing game. They linked with Connor who controlled everything in midfield.   Max showed what a quality player he has become, creating a number of chances and scoring a great goal. Dante with great skill and determination scored the other goal. Similarly, Matt had a terrific match and was unlucky not to add to his impressive goal tally. Olly played up front with another hard working display breaking away from his minders on a couple of occasions. Will’s fantastic runs down the right wing deserved a goal.

Joe White was today’s man of the match.  Joe made some great passes, allowed non of the opposition down the left wing and had a couple of good shots that only just failed to score. His contribution was enormous and he typified the battling spirit of the team. Well done Joe.

It’s hard to pick out highlights from such a terrific match but there were two fantastic moves that stood out. In the first move Max, Dante, Matt and Connor linked up with a passing move which only just failed to score. The Fletcher Moss coaches applauded the passage of play which was pure class. The second move was a brilliant piece of individual skill and strength. Harrison made a vital tackle, beat another player and hit the ball from a distance past the goalkeeper, only to see the shot crash against the post.

The Jaguars controlled the game against a Fletcher Moss Team filled with Academy Players.  Well rehearsed set pieces came to nothing thanks to first class marking and concentration. The Fletcher Moss star striker, who ran riot at the last meeting, was reduced to looking for the ball behind the half way line, frustrated by great defending.   He escaped only once to score their only goal. Fletcher Moss were gracious in defeat but make no mistake they will be out for revenge next time.

The Jaguars’ coaches and supporters went wild at the final whistle but the biggest cheer of the day came from Jack, laid up ill at home, on hearing the result which he knew meant so much to everyone involved.  This was the Jaguars greatest achievement to date, beating one of A Division’s big guns.
