Match report for Wilmslow Town U10 Cougars 9 - 3 home win against Alderley United U10 A (15/01/2011)

Wilmslow Town Cougars U10 9(nine) Alderley United 3

Wilmslow started today in high spirits after their good performance last week and had all the play in the first five minutes and were unlucky not to score with Will shooting over from distance.  Alderley though had other ideas and against the run of play took advantage of the Cougars defence to take the lead. Cougars got the bit between their teeth and had a real go at equalising, they had a number of corners and eventually got what they deserved from a peach of a corner, Ben crossed it in and Will headed to the back post, Harry was waiting and passed the ball past the stranded keeper to equalise. Cougars carried on attacking and went two up after Will took on two players down the left, passed the ball to Ben Jones who calmly slotted home to the keepers left.

The second third Wilmslow started well again with a revised midfield of Will, Ben Jones and Luke winning most of the loose ball battles,  Callum and Charlie were controlling the Cougars defensive area.  Cougars scored their only scrappy goal of the game although the build-up was sublime, Charlie filling in at left back won the ball deep in the cougars half, beat his man and passed the ball of the match to Will who hit the ball across the face of the net to find an Alderley defenders outstretched leg guide the ball passed his own keeper, (and like all centre forwards Will claimed it). With the wind in their faces Cougars took their foot off the gas for a brief moment allowing Alderley to grab a second goal after Ben Redhead had made a number of excellent saves. Both teams at this point played some good football with Cougars just edging possession. Cougars scored their fourth goal after a good run down the left by Luke who crossed another good ball in towards Olivia and Will, Olivia let the ball run across her and Will hit the ball home into the bottom corner of the net.

The last third saw Wilmslow play some of their best football this season and after a number of unbelievable let offs hitting the bar and the post at least four times, but Alderley’s  luck ran out when Charlie scored with a well-placed shot to make it five. It was all Cougars now and Alderley were struggling to contain them, but again against the run of play they scored a third. This only drove Cougars on and after yet another goal mouth scramble Luke reacted quickest to make it six. It was Wills turn next, Ben volleyed towards goal and Will picked up the half cleared ball and smashed it into the top left hand corner. The eighth goal was probably the pick of the goals with Luke coming in from the right hand side, he beat his man and bent a lovely left foot shot passed the keepers right side. Will finished off the scoring, picking up a cross from Charlie and passing the ball cleverly into the bottom corner of the net

This is the Cougars first league win this season after some unbelievable bad luck previously, it was a very deserved win, thanks to Mark (jaguars u10s) and Ian (panthers u10s) for the extra training and games it was most definitely a deciding factor in this result.
