10 January 2011 Match report for Wilmslow Town U10 Jaguars 3 - 4 home defeat to AFC Partington U10 Dragons (08/01/2011)
After so long since our last game and then the Xmas festivities, it was a surprise that all the boy’s strips still fit! All of them were well up for their second round cup game and the crowd were hoping that the Dragons might breathe some warmth over their way. The Jaguars got off to a strong start with Arun shooting over from far range. Tadiwa made a great run on the left but found himself doing more like breaststroke than crossing due to finding a waterlogged area of the pitch! Soon after both Robbie then Arun had shots saved then Steph forced a corner from which JackK headed just wide. The Dragons then roared and put pressure on the Jaguars defence but Zak showed strength and accuracy in his tackles and Arun came back to help out and put in a great last man tackle. The Dragons then produced the first goal from a fine break and the Jaguars were one down then, straight after, a second break and a second goal. Despite putting some good pressure on The Dragons defence our buys could not get a goal and so the first period ended with a disappointing two goal deficit.
First Period: Wilmslow Town Jaguars 0 - Dragons 2
Things got worse from the off with a cheeky back heel making it three to The Dragons. Wilmslow were not going to give in though and the boys put some great plays together. Steph made their goalie make a fine save, James was fighting hard in midfield and then Oliver made a great save. Then a terrific passing move ended in Robbie bagging one back for the Jaguars to make it 1 -3. Arun and Zak once again were strong in defence and the Jaguars were so unlucky not to get another with a stunning passing move and close shot.
Second Period: Wilmslow Town Jaguars 1 – Dragons 3
Another strong start from The Dragons saw Zack once again in action but even he could not stop them getting their fourth, it was looking like a repeat of the 6 -1 beating from earlier in the season. The Jaguars were not for breaking though. JackC banged a second in after some hectic activity in the Dragons box then a Steph sizzler was saved by their gaolie but it had already crossed the line. The boys had fought so hard and got back to within a goal but could they go on and win it? They definitely gave it their best with Tadiwa getting so close after a one on one with their goalie. It was nail biting stuff and The Jaguars pilled on the pressure, Oliver made another great save at the other end and the Zak / Arun combination kept The Dragons attack out. Try as they did however an equalizer would not come for our boys and The Dragons were relieved to hear the final whistle.
Final Score: Wilmslow Town Jaguars 3 – The Dragons 4
It was a really exciting cup tie and the boys were perhaps unlucky not to get a draw after fighting their way back.
