Eight out of Eight - Panthers winning run goes on and on

7 November 2010

Match report for Wilmslow Town U9 Panthers 8 - 0 home win against AFC Partington U9 (06/11/2010)

After a two week break the Panthers were keen to resume playing again, this weeks opponents were AFC Partington . Not much was known about the opposition as they had recently been promoted from a lower division in the league reorganization.

The Panthers had a full squad to select from this week.

The team started off with Gabriel, captain for the day in Goal a back two of Ollie and Martin  A midfield three with Ben wide right, Jack wide left and Sam in the middle, with Davy alone up front.

Ist Period

The Panthers who have become very adept at playing on the small and narrow Lacey Green pitch started brightly taking the game to Partington, Martin joining in from the back got in an early cross from the right and Ben had the first shot on target. The midfield three soon established dominance and moved the ball around freely.

Sam won the ball in midfield and played the ball wide left to Jack, Jack moved forward and crossed well presenting Davy with an easy tap in for the opening goal.

The Panthers nearly doubled the lead from the next attack with Ben narrowly firing wide from a Martin corner.

Ben and Martin then combined well again with Ben winning the ball and putting Martin through on the right , Martin’s run was bought to an end with a deliberate trip. Not to be denied though Martin took the resulting free kick from the right touchline 25 yards out and hit a strong shot through a crowd of players and past the Partington keeper to make the score 2-0

It was not all one way traffic though and Partington had a free kick which went just wide and Gabriel had to tip another attempt over from a corner.

The Panthers then increased their lead with Martin firing in from the edge of the area after Partington had failed to clear another cross from the left.

Then came what can only be described as a Nani moment. From another attack The Partington keeper save well at his near post from a shot by Martin. All the players then retreated to half way awaiting the keepers clearance. The keeper though went to the edge of his area with the ball and put it down as if to take a goal kick. Davy was alert to the situation and casually strolled up to the ball and slid it into an unguarded net. Despite protests from Partington players and supporters the goal was given as the ball had remained in play throughout and there had been no infringement.

Well done to Davy for being so quick thinking.

The period ended with the Panthers on the attack again with an attempt from Jack being pushed around for a corner.

   Ist period score 4-0

2nd Period

The second period saw a number of positional changes Marcus and Ollie now formed the back line Martin moved to centre midfield and Dillan  and Aidan joined the attack.

Without the passing skills of Ben and Sam the Panthers adopted a more direct approach moving the ball quickly from back to front (or hoofing it put in simpler terms) This strategy nearly paid off as Jack, Dillan Aidan and Martin all had chances to extend the panthers lead

The Panthers pressure eventually told and following a succession of corners on the right Marcus’s good cross found Martin’s head at the near post .This was the Panthers first headed goal of the season and allowed Martin to complete his hat trick.

Dillan then picked up on a weak goal kick and blasted a shot in from the edge of the area to make the score 6-0

2nd period score 6-0

3rd Period

The final third saw Ben, Sam and Davy return to the action, and the Panthers then returned to the pass and move football which has been the basis of their success so far this season.

Partington to their credit though continued to make a game of it and Gabriel was forced into a couple of saves , on one occasion stretching to claw the ball out from just under his crossbar.

Marcus continued to look to get forward from defense and attempted a shot from range, Aidan got a vital touch to the goalbound effort which diverted it out of the keepers reach and made the score 7-0

Aidan who is showing the ability to be in the right place at the right time then made then completed the scoring when he was first to a loose ball in the Partington box toe poking the ball past the keeper.

The margin of victory could have been greater with Ben, Sam Dillan and Aidan all going close or forcing good saves from the opposition keeper.

Final score 8-0

Summary
Another polished performance from the Panthers brushing aside spirited opposition. The Panthers are equally effective with their pass and move style or in all out attack mode.
