Magnificant 7 - Panthers 100% record continues

17 October 2010

Match report for Wilmslow Town U9 Panthers 0 - 4 away win against North Trafford Athletic U9 (16/10/2010)

With their perfect record still intact after last weeks hard fought victory over Sale the Panthers traveled to Trafford to take on North Trafford Athletic.

Conditions were ideal for football, although the pitch was wide and flat the goal areas bizarrely extended about half way to the centre spot.

The Panthers had a full squad to select from this week.

The team started off with Gabriel in Goal a back two of Ollie and Marcus who was handed the responsibility of being captain for the day. A midfield three with Ben wide right, Jack wide left and Martin in the middle, with Aidan alone up front.

Ist Period

The Panthers started brightly taking the game to North Trafford, and looking to get the ball wide to Ben and Jack. After 5 minutes Martin won the ball in midfield and found Jack on the left, Jack played a lovely ball through the defense for Aidan to run onto, Aidan kept his composure and slipped the ball past the oncoming goalkeeper to open the scoring. 1-0 to the Panthers,

The boys were looking far sharper than in the previous match defenders Marcus and Ollie were linking well with Ben and Jack down the flanks and Martin was winning most of the loose ball in the centre. Gabriel had little to do in the first period apart from the long trek to the edge of his area to take goal kicks.

Ben made a good run down the right with his cross just evading a number of Panthers flying up from the back.

Jack was looking a danger on the left, another good cross caused a mix up in the North Trafford defense with a defender and goalkeeper colliding the loose ball was pounced on by Aidan who managed to get it over the line at the second attempt to double the Panthers lead.

2nd Period

The second period saw a number of positional changes Ben and Davy now formed the back line Sam joined the action in midfield and Dillan replaced Aidan upfront.

Marcus now moving to the right side of midfield made a couple of good runs down the wing but could not get in a telling cross. Dillan looking sharp had a shot well turned around for a corner.

The Panthers we attacking on both flanks and came close to extending their lead on several occasions., Ollie then set Dillan free down the left he got to the byline and knocked a good ball across the face of goal, Sam rushing up from midfield narrowly missed getting the finishing touch to

a fine team move. In throwing himself towards the cross Sam picked up a hand injury and had to leave the field being replaced by Martin. Hopefully Sam will be fully recovered for our next game.

The Panthers continued to play flowing football Ben and Martin combined well to set Dillan free on the right , his resulting shot was again well saved.

Despite having the majority of possession in the second period the Panthers were unable to extend their advantage

2nd period score 2-0

3rd Period

The final third saw Davy and Aidan return to the action , Martin joined Ollie in defense and Jack returned to the left with Aidan and Dillan both in attack.

North Trafford came forward looking to reduce the deficit Gabriel made a good save early on. Ollie also cleared well twice with headers. Dillan then won a loose ball in midfield and played a great through ball for Jack to run onto. Getting it onto his favored left foot Jack finished well making the score 3-0 to the Panthers.

Although North Trafford continued to pressure The Panthers remained calm and continued to pass the ball around Ollie having a storming game on the left pushed forward and tried a shot from the edge of the area. The keeper could only palm the ball into the path of Aidan, unfortunately his effort was just inches wide denying him a much deserved hat-trick.

The Panthers were not finished though and Dillan completed the scoring just before the end capitalizing on another defensive mix up in the North Trafford area, making the score 4-0 to The Panthers.

Summary
The Panthers extended their perfect start to the season playing at times some delightful football. Although North Trafford were never overwhelmed they were outplayed in all areas, and with a little more composure or a better final ball the margin of victory could have been far wider.
