Match report for Wilmslow Town U10 Jaguars 1 - 1 away draw with St Johns U10 (20/11/2010)

St Johns Celtic v Wilmslow Town Jaguars - 20th November 2010

There was a rolling low mist hovering across the moss and an eerie silence without Steph’s dad’s booming shouts of encouragement on what was another glorious sunny morning. After a long arduous trek from the car park (and a healthy breakfast of bacon and egg barms for some) it was down to business. Could the Jaguars make three in a row against some tough opposition? Well, Jack8 was quick off the mark with a pass through the middle to James then on to Sam who had saw his shot go wide. At the other end Zack and Arun were once again putting in some tough tackles then, like a ping pong match, the ball was back again with a superb Robbie – James one two that nearly produced the opener. It was certainly tense as St Johns showed some good forward movement with Oliver have to make a great diving save off to his left then another save to keep them out. Just after this a St Johns striker went clear through to a one on one with Oliver but again Oliver foiled their attempt to get off the mark. After a quiet time last week he was certainly back in action. Just before the break Robbie had a great through run and cross but no side could make the important breakthrough.
First period: St Johns 0 - Wilmslow Town 0

Mark must have breathed fire into the boys at the team talk because they came out fighting straight from the whistle. Robbie battled in defence then Oliver made a great double save, Jach4 made a run right through the St Johns midfield and soon after it was reliable Robbie who popped up to put the Jaguars ahead. It might have been slightly against the run of play on the second period but who cares! The Jaguars sensed blood and soon created another chance with the ball bobbling around in the St John penalty area and James was unlucky not to put it in the net. Tadiwa then ran through the middle but was just denied by their keeper who had run out well off his line. Jack8 was again awesome in his work rate and tackling as the Jaguars were under pressure with the second period coming to an end.
Second period: St Johns 0 - Wilmslow Town 1

You could feel the touchline tension as the away supporters sensed a possible three wins in a row and another push up the table. It was not going to be easy though as the green and whites of St Johns were straight up the pitch from kick off and put great looping shot just below the cross bar. Oliver managed to push the ball away but it was still on its way in but somehow he and Robbie kept it out although they ended up on top of one another! Tadiwa and James once again worked well together to create a good chance then another. Then a scare, St Johns were on the break again but Arun tracked back and made a well timed tackle that left their striker puzzled as to where the ball had gone. Jack8 then put a pin point pass through to Robbie who rounded the keeper beautifully and then looked for all the world to pass the ball into the net but somehow it only hit the post and went out. Everyone thought it was a certain goal and it was probably the closest you can get without actually scoring. As the seconds were counting down Zack put some great tackles in and Robbie was back defending well. St Johns had a goal rightly disallowed for handball but from the kick out their striker made a good long range shot that finally beat Oliver and gave them a last gasp draw.
Final score: St Johns 1 - Wilmslow Town 1

This was a great battling performance against a good team and the boys were unlucky to concede a late goal.
