13 November 2010 Match report for Wilmslow Town U10 Jaguars 0 - 4 away win against Ashton on Mersey JFC U10 (13/11/2010)
Sat Navs were once again being bashed as the Jaguars were on their travels, this time wondering around the streets of South Manchester trying to find the Ashton on Mersey home ground. After finally getting all the team in one place Mark had the boys in warm ups whilst the parents swapped tales of school nicknames from a bygone era. The weather was again glorious (although cold) and there was real sense of excitement after the great result last week and the possibility of a cup run. It was the bright orange shirts of Ashton that were racing up the pitch first however, and then hitting the bar from a fierce free kick before even the coffee flasks were set down. Steph then answered back with a double shot that forced a save then Robbie put in a good cross after some good work on the left. Jack8 battled hard to win a loose ball then fired off a shot that the goalie could only parry and Birthday boy Robbie was straight on to it to put the Jaguars one up. Steph then dribbled down the left and crossed the ball or to Tadiwa who shot just wide. Robbie then did a silky move on the left to beat his man then Ashton came fighting back but couldn't get past Zack who repelled all that they could throw at him. On the counter, Steph fired off a grasshopper that was too strong for their keeper and Robbie pounced once again to double the Jaguars lead. As the first period came to an end Zack again shut the door on a couple of Ashton forays.
First period: Ashton on Mersey 0 - Wilmslow Town 2
Ashton stated off the second period as the first and thought they has pulled one back but Arun popped up on the line and cleared their best attempt so far. James had come on during the break and immediately made his presence felt with great tackling. At the other end Tadiwa leapt on a loose ball and took a shot that forced a corner. After some great tackling from Arun, Sam took the ball on the left and crossed it to Steph who made a couple of sweet touches before sliding the ball into the net to put the Jaguars ahead by three. Soon after a Robbie stinging shot forced a fumble by the Ashton keeper and it was Steph this time who was there to get the Jaguars fourth goal. The crowd were ecstatic and the boys were really enjoying themselves. Just before the referee blew for the break Sam and Steph did a smart one - two with Steph's shot going just wide.
Second period: Ashton on Mersey 0 - Wilmslow Town 4
The third period saw the pace understandably slow however there were still good chances created by the Jaguars, particularly Jack8 and Tadiwa. When Ashton did threaten, Zack was there to stop them and then the Jaguars swarmed out on the counter with Jack4, Arun and Tadiwa all taking the ball forward and Steph unleashing a shot that went just wide. Jack4 somehow managed a stylish flick to sent Robbie goalward and his shot forced a good save from the Ashton keeper.
Final score: Ashton on Mersey 0 - Wilmslow Town 4
This was undoubtedly the best performance of the season so far and deserved the scoreline. It had been coming with the boys improving each week - they and manager Mark should feel really proud of themselves.
