6 November 2010 Match report for Wilmslow Town U9 Jaguars 3 - 4 home defeat to Wilmslow Town U9 (06/11/2010)
After all the playground banter and speculation, the U9's A Division clash between the Jaguars and the Cougars proved to be a classic. The first third was a nervous affair. For the Jaguars, Freddie was resolute in goals with tough tackling Jack and Harrison keeping the considerable Cougars firepower of George, Ben and Ethan Ford at bay. Dante battled out the midfield with Callum Livingstone. Max MP pressed forward for the Jaguars with Joe and Matt working hard down the wings. Josh was a wall in the Cougars defence, with Oscar outstanding in goals. After a goalmouth scramble the Cougars left the pitch one nil up.
In the second period, Will, Joel and Ollie came on for the Jaguars. The Cougars pushed on, scoring another goal before Matt pulled one back after a great run from Dante. Will fought hard down the right wing for the Jaguars and Ollie tried hard to level the score. Joel had a real battle with best pal Ethan Ford. The Cougars played some outstanding football, dominating the period and scored twice more to take the score to 4-1. In addition Calum Lovatt had two near misses from just outside the box. Rebecca showed off her skills with some great dribbling and passing. The Cougars goals came from Ethan Ford and George as well as a determined Tom and sharpshooter Archie.
At the break, the Cougars were celebrating with David but the Jaguars came off with their heads down. Nick and John rallied the troops and the team spirit came flooding back. What followed was a fantastic fifteen minutes of football. Dante sprang back to life and was everywhere. Harrison tackled and pushed forward in his finest performance, supported by Joel playing as the last man. Matt Williams gave everything and eventually pulled another goal back. The Cougars were unlucky not to pull further ahead after a great piece of skill from George ended with a shot just past the post. With five minutes to go all Max's hard work paid off as he put away a third goal for the Jaguars. The corners rained in on the Cougars but Oscar and his defenders held out. Ethan Howgate made a couple of great last ditch tackles. Joe White had two powerful attempts on goal but the ball refused to go in.
The final whistle blew with the scoreline 4-3 and everyone shook hands. A first league defeat for the Jaguars and a victory for the Cougars who just edged it on the day. Wilmslow Town were the big winners as the game showed what strength in depth the club has at under 9's. The referee, Joe Pinder, had a great match and commented afterwards that it was the best game of football he'd been involved in. Both teams should be very proud.
