16 October 2010 Match report for Wilmslow Town U10 Panthers 6 - 1 home win against Unicorn Athletic JFC U10 Dragons (16/10/2010)
Despite playing without their strongest defence and having no available substitutes, the Panthers turned in their best performance of the season so far.
From the kick off, Wilmslow were instantly on the attack and a pass from Will fell to Scott who forced the Unicorn’s keeper into an early save on what turned out to be a very busy day for him.
The Panthers got their first corner within 5 minutes and the ball was crossed from the right into the Unicorn’s area and fell to an unmarked Will on the left hand corner of the box who made no mistake with a great first time shot into the bottom right hand corner of the net.
The Panthers passing play was quick and accurate and shortly after the first goal, a pinpoint cross from Ben found Scott running into the area on the right hand side to sweep in the Panthers second.
Some good pressure from Calum dispossessed the Unicorn defence as they were attempting to clear their lines and a nice through ball to Will was finished very coolly for his second of the game and Wilmslow’s third.
Not content with resting on their deserved lead the Panthers were relentless in attack and the 1st period ended with a good save from the Unicorn keeper after a sweet one-two on the edge of the area between Scott and Will.
( First 15 minute period Wilmslow Town 3 – Unicorns 0)
The second period was strangely devoid of goals as the Panther’s attack didn’t let up. The Unicorns however did manage one or two forays into the Wilmslow area but Tom, who was almost a spectator for most of the game, was rarely troubled.
Calum at the other end had a great shot well blocked by a Unicorn defender and he and Scott both had shots well saved.
Scott, who has developed a Rory Delap like throw recently, finished the period with a long throw into the area where Will again put frustratingly wide
(Second 15 minute period Wilmslow Town 3 – Unicorns 0)
The final third began and once again the Panthers quickly got into their stride. A floating cross from Joel was about to be headed in by Will when the Unicorn keeper somehow managed to paw the ball away to safety.
The ball remained in the Unicorn half though and Will battled at the edge of the area to lay off to Calum who calmly stroked the ball home to make it 4-0.
Joel and Sam D were making some great tackles in defence to thwart any Unicorn threat and played the ball out of defence expertly. A defensive clearance from Sam D was put into the Unicorns area and after a bit of pin balling about, Scott received the ball with his back to goal and from 3 yards out rifled the ball home on the turn for the Panthers fifth.
The Unicorns heads didn’t drop however and on a rare excursion into the Wilmslow area a good shot was only parried out by Tom and the Unicorns slotted home the rebound for their only consolation.
The play was soon back at the Unicorn end though and Ben came close to opening his scoring account but his shot was well saved. Calum almost added to his tally with a shot that was just wide and then with the game in its final moments, a goal kick was controlled by Joel just inside the Unicorn half and his first time shot sailed over the hapless Unicorn keepers outstretched arms into the net to round off a spectacular victory.
