A great effort from the U10 Panthers - but its the 2nd defeat of the season

10 October 2010

And so it was time for Sale to visit the Jim Evison playing fields to face a Panthers team who despite only losing once this season had yet to reproduce the consistent form of last season.

Sale showed their intent with a goal from their first attack. After a strong run down the right a hard drive was put past the deputising goalkeeper, Sam H, standing in for an injured Tom.

Wilmslow however came back well and a cross into the area from Joel was met with a great header from Calum but the ball went just wide of the right post.

Sale were the width of the post from increasing their lead shortly after but Wilmslow levelled the score jut before the break when Scott fired the ball into the top right hand corner of the net after the ball ricocheted out to him from a packed goalmouth

The early part of the second period was real backs to the wall for the Panthers as Sale came forward in waves. Ben had took over as temporary keeper for the rest of the game, and three great saves, one point blank, kept the scores level.

Wilmslow gradually came back into the half and after Will had shot narrowly wide, a great run from Scott won a corner for the Panthers. Lincoln took the corner, Scott received the ball in the area and a fierce shot on the turn was brilliantly tipped onto the crossbar by the Sale keeper, the ball dropping into his arms from the rebound.

Tenniel managed to keep the Sale attack at bay for the remainder of the period and after a trademark thunderbolt from Sam H went just over, the 2nd third ended with the scores still level.

Sale went ahead early on in the final third. A corner from the left was almost back heeled over the line as a static Panthers defence looked on. Despite a great header by Lincoln flashing just wide from a Scott cross it was Sale who went even further ahead. Again, a corner from the left passed by everyone, except an unmarked Sale forward at the back post, who made no mistake to make it 3-1 from close range.

The Panthers rallied well and thought they had pulled one back when Lincoln let fly with a shot from the edge of the area. It was to be his England moment however, the ball hitting the underside of the bar, bouncing down onto the line and back into play.

Scott managed another good shot on target as the game was in its final moments but the Panthers were unable to improve the scoreline.
