9 October 2010 Match report for Wilmslow Town U9 Jaguars 3 - 3 away draw with Stretford Victoria JFC U9 (A) (09/10/2010)
Newly promoted to Division A, the Jaguars played on a pitch more suited to alpine skiing than football in sunny Stretford.
The first fifteen minutes were uphill with the wind against the Jags. Freddie, Harrison and Jack battled at the back against a strong Stretford Victoria attack. Connor patrolled in the middle with Matt and Joe flying down the wings. Max hunted alone up front. Stretford Vics scored an early goal from a corner in a goalmouth scramble. The question was how would the Jags react to going behind for the first time this season? The answer was they pulled together and took the game to the Stretford Vics. The managers were very proud of them.
In the 2nd third Joel came on with Dante, Will, Cameron and Olly. Straight from a trademark corner, Cameron smashed in the equaliser to bring the scores level. Jack, Dante, Joel, Will and Cameron got involved in a very physical period of the game with the Vics. Nobody backed off. The pace of the game was incredibly fast. Olly Potter played high up the pitch occupying two Stretford defenders. From nowhere he got hold of the ball with one touch and cooly struck it into the back of the net. Olly's teammates on the bench celebrated. Stretford looked like a beaten team but in a flash of individual brilliance, their number seven scored an equalizing goal to give them new life.
The final third saw the return of Harrison and Max. Max fought hard all afternoon and deserved a goal but the ball just would not drop kindly for him. Dante displayed tough tackling, great runs and terrific passes. Typically, he put the Jags up 3-2 with ten minutes to go. Connor, Matt and Joe came back on to see the game out with true grit. Stretford Vics managed a late equaliser to finish the game at 3-3. On reflection a fair result in difficult conditions with a great team performance from the Jags. A special mention for Freddie. He made some great catches in windy conditions and kicked well. Joel and Matt both fought so hard that they got injured and deserve medals for bravery
The boys have a great team spirit. Believe in yourselves Jaguars and anything is possible this season.
