9 October 2010 Match report for Wilmslow Town U10 Cougars 1 - 0 away defeat to Unicorn Athletic JFC U10 Warriors (09/10/2010)
Unicorn 1 Cougars 0
The Cougars have not had a good start to the season losing five in a row, but today’s game was an unbelievable result. Cougars only had 8 players to choose from, had a starting line up of Joe in goal for Ben who was unavailable and made some good saves, Callum and Ben at the back, Charlie Luke and Freddie in midfield and Will up front. From the start the Cougars were the better side dominating long periods of play. Luke Charlie, Freddie and Will passed the ball around well supported by Callum and Ben. Against the run of play Unicorn broke forward and scored from a goal mouth scramble, the Cougars reaction was brilliant they worked hard as a team and passed the ball well forcing Unicorn to defend resiliently.
Unicorn 1 Cougars 0
The second third Cougars brought Olivia on in the holding midfield position the Cougars set about squaring this game up, they played some lovely football with Charlie Welsh dominating the centre of the park. Ben and Callum were combatable soaking up the odd break away, and it only looked a matter of time before Cougars equalised. Will worked hard as usual but could not seem to get a clear shot on goal; Freddie was unlucky with a corner that was just a little too high.
Unicorn 1 Cougars 0
Cougars started the final third with the same commitment as the last one and Will tested the keeper early on and also hit one over the top, Ben did not connect properly from a corner, Olivia was crowded out as she tried to shoot. Cougars never gave up though and Unicorn hung on to their slim lead, sometimes you do not get what you deserve in football and this was one of those occasions. Cougars need a result to build their confidence and if they keep playing like they did today a win will not be far away.
I was really proud of you all today, well done Cougars. The passing play was much better, we looked like we were up for it, first to the ball every time and dominating the midfield. This is where we have been lacking in previous games and where we can all look to improve.
