Ist Period
After last weeks superb victory over previously unbeaten Ashton On Mersey The Panthers travelled to Timperley for their 5th game of the season to face the Unicorn Gladiators. The Gladiators had also enjoyed an unbeaten start to the season. This week with Marcus returning, the Panthers had a full squad. The pitch was far larger than the boys were used to playing on though, and as a result the plan was to use the width to the boys advantage.
The team started off with Gabriel in goal, a back two of Marcus and Oliver, three in the middle with Jack, Captain for the day, wide left, Davy wide right and Martin in the middle, with Aidan alone up front.
The Panthers started brightly and tried to move the ball quickly to the wings. The long grass was making passing and carrying the ball difficult though and neither side could create any early chances. Oliver then won the ball and released Jack who set off on a run down the left. Cutting inside he hit a strong shot that beat the Unicorn keeper at his near post. 1-0 to the Panthers, and a much deserved and long overdue first goal of the season for Jack, who by scoring meant that all Panthers outfield players have now found the net this season.
Jack then turned provider, another run down the left and a cut back that found Martin 15 yards out. Martin had time to control and dispatch a strong shot past the Unicorn keeper to make it 2-0 to the Panthers.
The Panthers pushed forward with Marcus and Davy both finding the Unicorn keeper difficult to beat.
It was not all one way traffic though. Unicorn narrowly fired over from a free kick after Davy had upended a Unicorn attacker bearing down on goal.
Ist period score 2-0
2nd Period
The second period saw a number of positional changes Davy and Martin now formed the back line Ben and Sam joined the action in midfield and Dillan replaced Aidan upfront.
Dillan, Sam and Jack all saw early efforts either saved or narrowly miss the target. The Panthers could not get the all important third goal and Unicorn were beginning to come back into the match.
Ben and Sam were linking well in the middle and getting the ball forward down the flanks, however, the long grass was continuing to make accurate passing difficult. Gabriel blocked well from a Unicorn attack and Unicorn also narrowly missed after a defensive mix up left a Unicorn attacker one on one with Gabriel. The increasing Unicorn pressure eventually told when a shot was cruelly deflected past Gabriel to make the score 2-1 to the Panthers.
Sam moving forward from midfield had a goal bound effort cleared off the line.
The second period ended with play alternating from end to end.
The Panters were unlucky not to score in the second session, the Unicorn keeper pulling off some fantasitc saves.
2nd period score 2-1
3rd Period
The final third saw Aidan returning to the action on the left, Ben and Oliver now moved into defense and Marcus returned to midfield.
The Panthers kicked off and a careless ball was played back towards the defense. It held up in the long grass and was seized upon by a Unicorn attacker whose shot on goal was deflected wide for a corner. A let off for the Panthers.
Straight from the resulting corner though the Panthers were punished and Unicorn leveled as Marcus, in attempting to clear, could only deflect the ball into his own goal to make the score 2-2.
It was now all Unicorn and a number of attacks and corners followed. Gabriel saved well on a couple of occasions and Ben and Oliver supported by Marcus got in some vital tackles and clearances.
As was the case last week against Ashton the Panthers absorbed pressure well and continued to look to pass the ball. This strategy was rewarded when a pass from Marcus put Dillan clear on the right, he ran on and shot past the oncoming keeper to restore the Panthers lead. It was still end to end play Aidan and Sam both went close to extending the lead and Oliver made a number of vital tackles.
After what seemed an age the final whistle went signaling another Panthers victory.
Great credit should go to Unicorn Gladiators who provided the Panthers with their toughest test of the season to date and competed right up to the final whistle.

Summary
Another great showing from the Panthers who had briefly looked in danger of losing their 100% record after allowing Unicorn back into the match. Showed great spirit and continued to try and play their passing game.
