Its all Wilmslow..but only one goal for U10's! - Panthers efforts be-lie the result

Match report for Wilmslow Town U10 Panthers 1 - 0 home win against Wythenshawe Town U10 (25/09/2010)

The Panthers were at home this week looking to build on last weeks hard fought first win and were out of the blocks straight away with good sustained pressure on the Wythenshawe goal. Some good interplay between Scott and Joel soon gave Sam H the first shot of the match, but it was narrowly wide.

The Wythenshawe keeper was certainly on form today, and he needed to be, as shots were soon raining in on him and he was forced into great saves from close range from both Joel and Scott.

Almost the entire first period was spent in the Wythenshawe penalty area and it was incredible that the Panthers didn’t make the break through.

Wythenshawe did manage a late attack on the Wilmslow goal just at the close of the 1st third but Tom maintained his great early season form with a good save.

( First 15 minute period Wilmslow Town 0 – Wythenshawe Town 0)

Wilmslow started the second period as they played in the first with good passing play and plenty of goal attempts.

Joel was the first on target, but again the Wythenshawe keeper was equal to it, then Sam H had a long distance effort helped on in the area by Scott that flashed wide of the post.

Man of the Match Tenniel made one of his many timely defensive challenges, and this time ran the length of the field with the ball, beating off all challenges but was only able to shoot straight at the keeper.

The Panthers then won a free kick just inside the Wythenshawe half and Joel hit a great shot through a packed penalty area and into the top left hand corner of the net to give Wilmslow a well deserved lead.

A well disciplined Wilmslow defence kept the Wythenshawe attack at bay and any attempts were restricted to long range efforts that were comfortably dealt with by Tom.

The period closed with a great pass through the Wythenshawe defence by Ben to Lincoln, but again the shot was wide.

( Second 15 minute period Wilmslow Town 1 – Wythenshawe Town 0)

Wilmslow tried to put the game to bed in the final third with sustained pressure, but despite the proverbial kitchen sink being thrown, were unable to improve the scoreline.

Good passing through midfield from Joel & Ben ensured that Wilmslow kept possession in the Wythenshawe half and some nice trickery from Calum down the right wing kept the Wythenshawe defence busy.

The Panthers won another free kick in a good position, but this time Joel’s shot was saved by the keeper, the rebound was well met by a great header from Scott in the area but it rattled the crossbar and still it remained 1-0.

The remainder of the game was a tale of missed Wilmslow chances and they nearly lived to regret it when right at the end of the game Wythenshawe thought they had a penalty when Sam H handled, but the extremely officious referee deemed the offence to be right on the edge of the area. A tense final moment passed though when the free kick deflected out of play of the well organised wall and it proved to be the last action of the game.

The 1-0 scoreline really didn’t truly reflect the boys’efforts, but its consecutive wins for the Panthers.

Final score 1-0
