Match report for Wilmslow Town U9 Panthers 0 - 15 away win against Alderley United U9 C (18/09/2010)

Ist Period

As it often does the Timperley and District league fixture computer determines that teams play each other Home and Away in consecutive weeks. The Panthers therefore made the short trip to Alderley Edge to face Alderley United who they had managed to overcome 15-0 last weekend. This was the Panthers first Away fixture of the season and they were strengthened by the return of Aidan.

After last weeks victory morale was high. Wise words from the coaches beforehand reminded the team of the need to continue playing in the same manner as the previous match, where they moved the ball quickly and did not try to take on the opposition single handed. Those who had dwelled on the ball in the previous match still had the bruises to show from some robust Alderley tackling.

The team started off with Gabriel in goal, a back line of Ben, Martin and Oliver who was captain for the day with Jack, Sam and Dillan forming the attack.

The Panthers again dominated early possession and were camped out in the Alderley half. As was the case last week, the first goal took a while to arrive despite several efforts on goal. The deadlock was broken when one of Martin’s long throws was turned in by Dillan. Ben then took a quick throw on the right which found Martin on the edge of the area , he turned and hooked a shot over the Alderley keeper to make the score 2-0 to the Panthers. Dillan quickly added a third after a mix up in the Alderley defense. A good team move was finished off with Dillan putting Sam through to make it four. Martin then set Dillan up to complete his hat-trick, and then after the ball bobbled around the Alderley area Martin crashed a shot into the roof of the net to complete the first period scoring.

Ist period score 6-0

2nd Period

In total control the Panthers were again able to make a number of positional changes for the 2nd period. Marcus and Davy came on at the back replacing Martin and Sam, and Aidan moved into attack replacing Jack. Oliver also joined the forward line. Again the Panthers dominance was total, with Gabriel in goal destined not to get even a touch of the ball in the second period either. Marcus at right back linked well with Ben and Davy on the right. Oliver moved the ball around effortlessly on the left finding Aidan and Dillan with ease.

Despite intense pressure though the Panthers could not get the ball in the net. Several corners from the right were scrambled away, and when Aidan did manage to wriggle past the defense the goalie kept his effort out.  Martin then returned to the action replacing Oliver. Aidan then got the scoreboard moving again finishing well from close range. Then came a déjà vu moment the Panthers won a corner on the left which was whipped in with pace by Davy. It found the Alderley net via the same defender who had turned a Davy corner into his own net in the previous match 8-0 to the Panthers. Davy then played Aidan in to complete the second period scoring.

2nd Period total score 9-0

3rd Period

The score line enabled the coaches to make more positional changes Sam and Jack rejoined the attack replacing Ben and Dillan. Aidan and Martin formed a 2 man defense with Marcus and Davy patrolling the middle.

Goals continued to flow , Marcus had a long range effort that eluded everyone to bring up double figures. Then Jack who had been unlucky not to score in the previous match received the ball on the left and hit a strong shot which the Alderley keeper could only parry, the ball rolled slowly towards the goal line , Davy nipped in though to apply a finishing touch from about an inch thus depriving Jack once again. Sam made it twelve with a tap in. Martin got the final touch to a Marcus shot to make it thirteen , Oliver popped up to increase the score line further , and the scoring was completed after Martins strong run down the right and cross was deflected in by an Alderley defender to make it Fifteen.

Gabriel made a couple of smart saves in the final few minutes as the Panthers pushed too many players forward looking to increase the goal count, this allowed Alderley to counter attack quickly.

Again credit should go to Alderley who continued to play to the final whistle. Best wishes to them for the remainder of the season.
