Wonderful Wilmslow win at Wythenshawe! - First win of the season for U10 Panthers

Match report for Wilmslow Town U10 Panthers 0 - 1 away win against NJ Wythenshawe U10 (18/09/2010)

The Panthers were away from home this week, facing Wythenshawe Juniors again, this time looking for a reversal in fortunes after last weeks narrow defeat.

Wilmslow signalled their intent straight from the kick off with Sam H forcing an early corner. A good cross from Lincoln had Scott shooting narrowly wide.

Wythenshawe are a good side however and it didn’t take long before they were testing the Panthers defence, and they also came close early on with a shot narrowly wide of the right hand post.

The majority of the first period was a hard fought midfield tussle with Sam H, Tenniel and Joel standing firm and keeping the Wythenshawe attack at bay.

Wilmslow did get a couple of breaks up front though and almost broke the deadlock when Scott had a close range shot saved and narrowly putting the rebound wide.

Wilmslow began to slightly edge the game in the second period, and although Tom had to be alert with a good save from an early Wythenshawe breakaway, the Wilmslow pressure on the Wythenshawe goal steadily increased.

Scott came close again with a shot from a corner that was well saved, and then after a good run down the left by Sam D, Joel received the ball in the area and his shot on the turn was again well taken by the Wythenshawe keeper.

Then came what turned out to be the best play of the match. Tenniel passed the ball out from defence to Sam D on the left, his first time pass to Joel was then passed on to Calum on the right who took the ball down to the Wythenshawe by-line and won a corner.

Will curled the corner into the area, and after a goalmouth scramble, Sam H slid in to force the ball over the line for his first goal of the season.

Wythenshawe mounted a determined attack from the kick off, and Tom diving to his right turned a fierce shot around the post.

Wythenshawe kept the ball at the Wilmslow end for the last few minutes of the period but Sam H was towering in defence, clearing the danger with some strong heading.

Wythenshawe kept pressing and soon their striker was one on one with Tom, but Tom kept the Panthers lead intact with another great save.

( Second 15 minute period Wilmslow Town 1 – Wythenshawe 0)

The final period began with more pressure from Wythenshawe, as this time, it was they who were searching for an equaliser. But this left the Wythenshawe defence stretched and from a Wilmslow goalmouth clearance the ball fell to Ben who controlled the ball well, but his long range effort well saved.

Sam D, Scott and Calum were linking together well up front but could not add to the scoreline, but at the other end, a very well organised defensive display from the Panthers prevented Wythenshawe from levelling the score.

Great concentration and determination from the entire team kept the scoreline at 1-0 to the panthers, and in the end despite two very evenly matched sides, the Panthers edged this one.

Final score 1-0
