Match report for Wilmslow Town U10 Panthers 0 - 1 home defeat to NJ Wythenshawe U10 (11/09/2010)

The Panthers were at home again this week, this time facing Wythenshawe Juniors who provided an even stiffer test than last weeks game.

Tom was making his first save, a flying leap to his right, to tip round the post within the first 2 minutes.

Wilmslow were struggling to keep the ball in midfield, but did manage to get in the Wythenshawe area mid way through the period forcing a corner. Calum got a good head on the ball but it was straight at the Wythenshawe keeper. Another great corner kick from Sam D shortly after resulted in Sam H heading narrowly over.

The ball was moved around very well in midfield by Wythenshawe but Wilmslow were finding their form and defended well. Some good interceptions from Sam H kept Wythenshawe to long range efforts. Just before the end of the first period a very well struck free kick from Wythenshawe hit the side netting, but the teams were evenly matched at the whistle.

Wilmslow kicked off the second period but straight away, a sloppy pass found them under immediate pressure forcing Tom into an early save. From the resulting corner a good header was narrowly wide. Wilmslow, however, were still finding themselves second best in midfield and the Wythenshawe centre forward was becoming increasingly dangerous on the break. After another midfield tussle had Wythenshawe breaking with the ball, this time their No 9 made no mistake with a fierce drive to the near post giving them a 1-0 advantage.

Wilmslow now really had to concentrate and managed to start retaining the ball better.

A good cross from Scott found Will in the area, but his shot on the turn was well saved by the Wythenshawe keeper. The Wilmslow pressure was steadily building and a long throw from the right by Scott was met perfectly by Joel in the area, but his header cannoned back off the crossbar.

Wythenshawe were still quick on the break however and Tom was kept on his toes at the end of the period.

30 mins: Wilmslow Town 0 – Wythenshawe 1

The Panthers really pushed hard in the final third searching for the elusive equaliser. A loose ball came out of the Wythenshawe defence and was struck brilliantly by Sam H just inside the Wythenshawe half, but the keeper was equally brilliant finger tipping the ball onto the bar.

Sam H, Tenniel & Linclon were now getting to grips with the Wythenshawe attack, keeping them away from the Panthers goal, but the Wilmslow attack just could not find a way through the strong defence at the other end. Some late Panthers pressure forced a couple of corners but Calum & Scott were unable to make the break through. In the end a goal was elusive and Wilmslow were unfortunate to find themselves narrowly beaten. The fixture list finds the Panthers away to Wythenshawe next week where hopefully, their luck will change.
