Semi-Final penalty heartache for Panthers - in final U10 fixture

21 June 2010

The U10 Panthers travelled to Urmston last weekend to take part in the annual Urmston Town Summer Tournament.

The boys sailed through the group stages, winning all four games and scoring 11 goals while conceding only one. In the semi-final they came up against Beechfield United and took the lead early on, before conceding in the second half. 1-1 at the final whistle and extra time was an anxious affair with both teams looking to break the deadlock but not creating any real chances. 1-1 after extra time.

A penalty shoot-out followed and the Panthers scored only two of their five spot kicks, while Beechfield put away three of theirs to progress to the final.

Great disappointment, but for the second time running the Panthers have been eliminated only on penalties and for the second time in the last three tournaments they have reached the semi final or final without being defeated. So, room for improvement, but thankfully not too much required.
