Wounded Panthers reach final at Parkwyddn - but run out of steam and players

8 June 2010

The U10 Panthers enjoyed a great day in the sun at the Parkwyddn Summer Tournament on Sunday. The team reached the final, conceding only one goal in seven qualifying games, after losing 'keeper Henners in the first few minutes of the opening game.

The Panthers qualified through the group stage with 3 wins and 2 draws (and no goals against). They then came from 1-0 down to win the quarter final 2-1 before the excitement of penalties after a 0-0 draw in the semi-final. All five of the Panthers' penalties were despatched with great confidence while stand-in keeper Dan saved two opposition spot-kicks.

The boys eventually ran out of steam (and players) in the final, losing to Manchester Tigers. Henners and Dan finished their day with a trip to Accident & Emergency – Henners with a broken wrist and Dan on crutches after an injury sustained in the final. We wish them both a speedy recovery.

Injuries aside, there were lots of reasons to be cheerful - a fun day out, trophies to take home and a demonstration of team spirit that bodes well for the challenges that lie ahead. Well done boys.
