Friday 28th May saw the U11 Cougars taking part in the annual Awards Night for Season 2009-10, with only Atakan and Luis unable to attend. The sun shone and the sky was (partially) blue, with the fantastic venue of Wilmslow Rugby Club as the backdrop for the evening’s events.

Eric Garner, club chairman was handing out the awards as the Cougars lined up to receive theirs, only to realise they had been handed the trophies meant for the Jaguars! After some quick exchanges the team had the correct trophies and were able to carry on with the evening’s celebrations.

Worthy winners of the club awards were as follows:

·         Manager’s Player of the Year (as voted for by the parents):  Nathan Forrest

·         Player’s Player of the Year:  Tom Collicott

The team then went on to have their surprise alternative awards ceremony out in the stand, with the noise levels at times outdoing the main ceremony! The awards started with the parental award certificates which were as follows:

·         Ball Boy of the Year:  Raymond Graham – for unfailing support as the backstop for the team at home games where the fence prohibited easy retrieval of balls going over the fence

·         Referee of the Year:  Mark Nicol – for excellent and regular refereeing when we were unable to get a ref for our home games (also presented with his own ref’s kit of cards and notebook)

·         Linesman of the Year:  Andy Collicott – for superb linesman support, especially in the face of disgruntled opposition parents making their feelings known

·         Assistant Manager of the Year:  Stuart Jefferis  – for his fantastic work with the team and support to John over a challenging season

The boys awards were next, each having a little summary of why they had won before the trophy was handed over. They were as follows:

·         Most Improved Player:  William Kennedy

·         Clubman of the Year:  Joe Potter

·         Most Man of the Matches:  Nathan Forrest

·         Sportsman of the Year:  Brendan Behan

·         Unsung Hero of the Year:  Kieran Maguire

·         Greatest Number of Assists:  Connor Barton

·         Top Scorer:  Jamie Nugent

Apologies to the club for the racket, but we were having a great time!
