A beautiful evening for this midweek fixture with the manager instilling into the boys that with the title head to head with Stockport Vikings looming, we could not afford to drop any points against Chinley again . Volcanic eruptions dictated that no subs were available .
The manager presented two changes of tactics;
1. A sweeper would cover behind the back line
2. Midfielders would hover outside the box when the forwards were attacking so midfield could pick up stray balls .
This latter tactic soon paid dividends when both Jamie and TJ picked spectacular long range shots at goal
Chinley were still keen to crowd their own box with 11 men and their attacks on the break were dealt with valiantly by Charlie's aggressive tackles in particular. Further shots from Jamie filling the 'hole' outside the box were tipped over the bar.
Our reward came at 15 mins with a clinical finish from Connor followed by great goals by Brendan and Jamie.
A period of balls over the top were confidently dealt with by the strong heads of Teddy and Tom whilst up front Kieran's confidence was obviously brimming as he gave text book lessons in how to scoot around defenders and even get a bicycle kick on target. The half time whisle blew just after Shorty's attempt had been fisted over the bar by the Chinley 'keeper
In the second half Brendan diplayed his further ultilty taking the gloves ( s there any position this lad cannot master?) Sam managed a great shot at goal whilst demonstrating his reading of the game by providing cover for Neil behind his surging runs. Shorty was a constant menace to the Chinley backline and was justly rewarded for his efforts with 2 further statistics for his score sheet
Overall a gutsy performance. Some semblance of revenge, after dropping two points against Chinley last time out, but the boys will refuse to dwell on past performances as they look forward to the remaining fixtures now that we are at the 'business 'end of the season.
