6 March 2010 Match report for Wilmslow Town U9 Jaguars 3 - 2 home win against Broadheath Central U9 (C) (06/03/2010)
Spring was definitely in the air at Lacey Green with the temperature a few degrees warmer and life in the third division was also looking more comfortable after last week's win but could the Jaguars follow this up against Broadheath? Josh nearly got them off to the perfect start with a 'twist and turn' move followed by a great shot that was well saved by the Broadheath keeper, Harry W followed it up and watched as his effort hit the post. The rest of the first period was about solid defending and battling with few chances created by either side but despite this, some good quality and exciting football.
First Period: Jaguars 0 - Broadheath 0
Mark made a few changes at the break and the Jaguars looked more threatening straight from the whistle. Broadheath countered and Harris made a good clearance then Steph blocked a dangerous shot. Robbie then took a long range high looping shot that bounced once in front of the Broadheath keeper and then again over his outstretched hand into the top of the goal - a great opener for the Jaguars. Sam was solid in defence and put a good ball through then a Harris - Harry W combo produced a great shot that went just wide. It was Broadheath however that scored next after their attacker pounced on a loose ball. The Jaguars fought straight back with Harris tackling hard then passing up the field to create a good chance. Just after, Robbie took a Beckham like free kick picking out Harry W who finished off magnificently to put the Jaguars back into the lead 2 -1. Harris was having a great game and was again battling away in midfield, taking the ball of Broadheath and feeding an accurate ball through to Robbie who's shot went just wide. After a couple of good efforts from Harry W, Sam came close to scoring from a corner and then Harris had a try to extend the Jaguars lead as well. Despite all the action, the whistle blew without further goals and the Jaguars went into the break with a deserved lead.
Second Period: Jaguars 2 - Broadheath 1
The final period started with one of the most exciting moments of the game. Sam made a great tackle then tried one of his trademark long-shots that went over the keeper but crashed against the bar, bounced back off the keeper for Robbie who came frustratingly close but just couldn't make the shot . Broadheath stepped up the pace but Harry B and Joe defended very well. Harry W had had an effort that just skimmed past the post then Harry B made another important tackle to frustrate another Broadheath attack. Jo showed strength in defence then Oliver made a stunning save but Broadheath levelled the score with a good shot across the face of the goal. Steph made a crucial tackle as the last man then Robbie played the pass of the game up to Harry W who finished with a superb shot to take the Jaguars back into the lead. Jo again was great n defence and Broadheath, despite upping the pace, could not find another equaliser and the Jaguars won another game in division three.
Final Score: Jaguars 3 - Broadheath 2
This had been a really tough match and showed that the Jaguars could dig deep and keep pressure on their opponents all over the pitch to prevent them from getting comfortable on the ball. It also shows that division three should hold no fear for the Jaguars. The man of the match was very difficult this week as it was a overall team performance but Harry W won it not just because of the goals but his all round effort and performance.
