U9 Cougars set the record straight with Timperley - in a tense fixture against the Villa

6 March 2010

Match report for Wilmslow Town U9 Cougars 2 - 1 home win against Timperley Villa JFC U9 Panthers (06/03/2010)

Cougars had a score to settle with Timperley as the record was; drawn two lost one in their three previous meetings earlier in the season. They set off like a train and they went one up through a neat finish from Freddie’s knee in the middle of a goal mouth scramble. Cougars tested the Timperley keeper with good efforts from Neeki and Harry supported by Luke and Olivia.

Cougars are now playing with confidence and when they get their passing right they are a to pleasure watch. Their second goal came from a free kick in the inside right position, Will was given the kick and he found a gap to the left of the Timperley wall big enough to blast the ball past everyone into the bottom right hand corner of the net. Timperley were struggling to keep a rampant Wilmslow side at bay when they cleared the ball upfront and through sheer luck caught the Cougars defence off-guard to score against the run of play.

The second third Cougars made changes bringing Ben, Joe and Charlie on for Neeki, Harry and Olivia. Timperley came out with the bit between their teeth and made a real game of it, they forced Wilmslow backwards and were unlucky not to equalise from a well taken corner. Both sides were now enjoying a very competitive game of football played in the right spirit. Cougars won a penalty which was very well saved by an excellent Timperley keeper.

The last third Cougars made their final changes bringing Olivia, Neeki and Harry back on for Will, Luke and Freddie so each outfield player is playing two thirds each. This third was another thrilling affair with both sides having a number of good chances with the Cougars having the lions share, and but for the Timperley keeper they should have extending their lead. Charlie had to come off with an injury and we wish him a speedy recovery as we have a cup game next week.

MOTM -  Joe received MOTM today but was run very close by Freddie who is back to his tenacious best, Joe defended resolutely and made some excellent tackles to preserve the Cougars lead.
