2 March 2010 Match report for Wilmslow Town U11 Jaguars 10 - 1 home win against Inter Cheadle JFC U11 West (27/02/2010)
A cold morning and a very wet pitch welcomed Inter Cheadle West to Jim Evison for the Jaguars’ first home match of 2010. In the opposite fixture, Inter Cheadle scored the first goal conceded by the Jaguars this season and broke a proud clean sheet record, and so the scent of revenge was in the air for the Black Cats.
After issues with poor attitude at training and player unavailability, the Jaguars lined up with an unfamiliar defence, Fin in goal, a back line of Charlie, Tom, Ted, and Brendan, TJ and Hector in midfield and a front four of Jamie, Kieran, Shorty and Natty. Sam, Will and Connor warmed the metaphorical subs’ bench
The first half was characterised by a display of free flowing confident football, particularly down the left side with Charlie, Jamie and Kieran, playing some neat passing triangles, and supplying crosses which Natty was unlucky on several occasions not to get between the posts for goals.
Jamie was successful with assists, and Kieran with a first half hat trick –just reward for reproaching himself for only getting two goals in the opposite fixture earlier this season! Little big man TJ scored with a header from a corner, and Shorty put Natty’s ‘goal’ over the line with a tap-in after another fantastic cross field ball from Jamie.
Poor Brendan! The Jaguars’ left the pitch with a 5-1 lead at half time with Cheadle’s only goal being an own goal from Brendan’s head. An own goal, but as the Manager said, he was there to head it in the first place.
An excellent first half meant some changes could be made in the second, allowing Will, Sam and Connor to join the play with Fin and Teddy also exchanging shirts.
An even more pleasing second half resulted. Inter Cheadle had clearly had a team talk at half time and played with more fluency and appetite. Ted was called on to exhibit the ‘safe hands’ he has been keeping secret from us all this season, Tom superbly marshalled a back three and made some 'last ditch' tackles, Sam showed good discipline by retaining a combative midfield position, and the excellent work rate shown by Jamie continued to the final whistle.
The Jaguars confirmed their superiority with another five goals in the second half. Shorty completed his hat trick, Jamie pressurised the goalkeeper into dropping the ball, Fin rattled the back of the net and Natty’s consistent performance was rewarded when Shorty returned the favour of a tap-in as the final whistle blew.
10-1 a great team squad performance boys –everyone contributed. Let’s keep the pressure on and take it into the next match away at Chinley.
Goal scorers; Hat trick heroes Kieran (3) and Shorty (3), TJ (1), Jamie (1), Fin (1), Natty (1)
GBK Man of the Match; Jamie –like last week this award recognises two performances. His best match performance of the season and a committed training session. Jamie responded in the correct way after being substituted last week. The challenge for Jamie now is to train with the same attitude every week, and to take this level of performance into every match –particularly against those teams where he is faced with a stronger full back opponent. Keep it up Jamie!
