27 February 2010 Match report for Wilmslow Town U9 Cougars 0 - 4 away win against Alderley Athletic U9 (27/02/2010)
Cougars started this game with confidence after their last two results, playing down the slope in the first third. Their starting line up of Martin, Ben, Luke, Olivia, Neeki, Freddie and Harry were in control from the start and their quick passing left Alderley struggling to keep up with them. Alderley were working hard and defending strongly as Wilmslow forced a corner down the left hand side. Ben placed the corner into the centre of Alderley’s box and Freddie reacted first powerfully heading the ball past the keeper for the first of four very well taken goals. Cougars pushed hard for a second and but for some resolute defending and a great deal of luck they should have come off two or three up.

Cougars made three changes at the break bringing Charlie, Will and Joe on. Charlie went to centre midfield, Will was asked to play on the right side of midfield and Joe went in his familiar roll left side of defence. Will was unsure of his position on the right but was asked to cut inside and shoot with his left foot if he got the chance, and it was not long before he did exactly that. Will picked up the ball on the half way line and carried it down the right hand side pulling the Alderley defence towards him, his team mates were asking for the ball to be played forward but he cut in and smashed the ball from 20 meters passed a stationary keeper. Cougars were now playing football how it should be played, the passing dribbling and more important the work rate was fabulous. Charlie made it three with another good goal taking on two defenders and finding the bottom corner with a well placed shot.

The last third Cougars were warned not to ease up and concede any late goals as they have done in their last two games. Cougars really wanted their first clean sheet and that is what they got thanks to a wonderful penalty save by Martin. Cougars were in compete control in the last third with Neeki finishing off the scoring with a well taken goal towards the end of play. Overall this was possibly he best the Cougars have played so far and if they keep up the hard work in training they will only get much better. The referee who had a good game himself commented on how good the Cougars played.
