U9 Panthers edge out Wythenshawe - who prove to be no amateurs

8 February 2010

Match report for Wilmslow Town U9 Panthers 2 - 3 away win against Wythenshawe Amateurs JFC U9 Leopards (06/02/2010)

Straight from the kick off it became quickly apparent that the two teams today were very evenly matched. A tight 1st period resulted in very few chances from either side with the majority of the play in the midfield area. Wilmslow did come close on two occasions only to narrowly miss the target and the only notable goalmouth incident against Wilmslow was late on in the period when a well struck Wythenshawe free kick was tipped onto the bar by Tom.

15 minutes: Wythenshawe 0 - Wilmslow Town 0

The second period began much as the first until after about 5 minutes, a fierce shot by Wythenshawe from outside the area could only be parried out by Tom and the resulting loose ball was tapped in from close range giving them the lead. Wilmslow then applied good pressure on the Wythenshawe goal and it eventually told when a poor clearance from the Wythenshawe keeper fell straight to Scott who rifled in the equaliser. Within 2 minutes Wilmslow were ahead when a goalmouth scramble, after a Wilmslow corner, resulted in Scott adding his and Wilmslow’s second from close range. As Wilmslow searched for a third, inevitably space was left at the back, and just before the break Wythenshawe broke away and a good shot from outside the area hit the inside of the post and the loose ball drifting across the Wilmslow area was tucked away for the Wythenshawe equaliser.

30 minutes: Wythenshawe 2 - Wilmslow Town 2

The final third began with continued good football from Wilmslow with some great passing play between the forward line. Early in the period, a great shot from outside the area by Lincoln resulted in Wilmslow taking the lead once again. Wythenshawe were not done yet though and came close to equalising for the second time with a well worked close range header only to be denied by a point bank save from Tom.
Some good late pressure from Wilmslow however, ensured that their lead was not further threatened and the last five minutes were largely played out inside the Wythenshawe half. Final score 2-3 to the Panthers.

45 minutes: Wythenshawe 2 - Wilmslow Town 3

A well earned victory against a very determined opposition.
