Vics astroturf beats the weather - Panthers beat the Vics

19 December 2009

Match report for Wilmslow Town U9 Panthers 2 - 5 away win against Stretford Victoria JFC U9 (19/12/2009)

A cold morning start but the teams eagerly hit the atro turf with both teams having something to prove from the game only the week earlier. Joel and Will put the pressure on the Stretford team very early on but it was Henry whoose first shot was well saved by the Stretford keeper. Will took his first corner giving Henry his second shot at goal but once again was saved and cleared by the Stretford goaly. Before long Tom was soon in action in the Wilmslow goal stopping a long shot from Stretford. Sam D’s long run down the wing and a clean shot to Henry was still not rewarding the Wilmslow side. Much of the play was in the Stretford half with Joel also taking a shot but Stretford were turning the tables equally and both Tom and the Stretford goaly were kept busy in a fast paced period which ended 0-0.

Scott was now fresh on the pitch at the start of the second period and with good passing from Sam H not reaping rewards it was an excellent pass from Will to Scott that gave Wilmslow their first goal. 1-0. Wilmslow then upped the pace and in the last minutes of the period Sam D, Will and Scott had further shots but the Stretford goaly held his nerve until a well placed pass from Scott gave Joel his chance to bring Wilmslow to 2-0. The period ended with further shots from Will, Joe and Scott keeping the pressure on Stretford.

The confidence of Wilmslow was soon to be challenged with a goal from Stretford in the first minute of the third period and Wilmslow momentarily dropped their heads but it was Scott whose determination got the team back in the game with a close shot at goal going slightly wide giving them fresh momentum. Stretford also realised they could take this from Wilmslow as they turned the tables and soon the score was sitting at 2-2. Wilmslow again took this badly but within minutes Henry’s next shot led to a penalty to Wilmslow taken by Joel and taking the score to 3-2.  Sam H and Tom felt the pressure in defence as Stretford tried to even the score again but Joel took the score to 4-2 and tried for a 5th but in was Henry whose incredible kick from the half way line took the score to 5-2 and Wilmslow could finally enjoy their victory.

The team should be extremely proud of this result, it wasn’t an easy game but the excellent passing and good communication between the players shows how this team is coming on and is ready to take on further challenges.
