U9 Cougars find themselves out on a Lymm - out of sorts and out-played

6 December 2009

Match report for Wilmslow Town U9 Cougars 1 - 4 home defeat to Lymm Rovers JFC U9 (05/12/2009)

It was back to the league for cougars this week against Lymm Rovers and the Cougars were looking to complete the double over them. The pitch was in reasonable condition considering the amount of rain we have had lately. Cougars starting line up was Martin, Ben, Luke, Olivia, Charlie, Neeki and Freddy. Lymm started strongest forcing a string of corners that the Cougars defended well, and all though they were under the cosh Lymm did not really look like scoring until a speculative dipping cross took a wicked deflection and crept under Martins grasp. Cougars worked hard but Lymm were looking the more likely side to score, and that’s exactly what they did. After a mix up in the Cougars defence Lymm’s forward latched on to a sloppy back pass and made it two.

15 minutes: Wilmslow Town 0 Lymm 2

Wilmslow made two changes in the second third with Will and Joe coming on for Freddy and Olivia, still Lymm were stronger and the Cougars passing was poor, the best efforts the Cougars could produce were well wide of the mark. Again Lymm were on top and scored a good goal to make it three.

30 minutes: Wilmslow Town 0 Lymm 3

No changes to start the last third and the Cougars were determined to give a better account of themselves, and from the start Neeki and Will carved out the Cougars best chance which the keeper did well to keep out. This was more like the Cougars and they now looked like they were capable of getting something out of the game, and although their passing was not up to their previous standards the cougars work rate was good.

Cougars made it three one when Will made a solo run from the half way line holding two defenders off and slipping the ball low past the keeper. Cougars now made their last ditch changes with Harry Olivia and Freddy coming on and pushing hard to try and retrieve something from this game and in doing so the Cougars left space for Lymm to get behind them and seal the game with another well taken goal.

This was not the Cougars best performance but with more hard work on their passing game they should turn this poor result around next time out.

45 minutes: Wilmslow Town 1 Lymm 4
